METHODOLOGY
This concept paper employs a qualitative research approach to explore the role of
purposive communication in enhancing cultural competency within the context of
social work and sociological research, following the framework established by
Creswell & Poth (2018) for using a qualitative data. On the core principles of these
disciplines, the study aims to examine how effective communication strategies can
bridge cultural gaps, particularly in diverse educational and social settings.
The study will be conducted at Caraga State University, Ampayon, Butuan City, with
a focus on third year students. Using a non-probability sampling techniques, which
is, purposive sampling---participants will be selected based on their relevance to the
research objectives. Data will be gathered through face to face interviews to gain
deeper insights into third year students’ communication challenges within culturally
diverse environments.
Ethical standards—including truthfulness, informed consent, privacy, and
confidentiality—will be strictly upheld throughout the research process. Adhering to
ethical research design, sampling, data collection, and analysis ensures the
accuracy and integrity of the findings (Knottnerus & Tugwell, 2018). After gathering
the important information from the participants, the researchers will review the
answers of the participants through revisiting and rereading what they have taken
note then listening to the voice recording and will compare its validity and
consistency. The data will then be transcribed for transcriptions and translations
purposes. The participant’s answers in vernacular language will be translated into
English language. The researcher will then consolidate and summarize the data and
encode and review it again. The researchers will then get the factors from the main
idea of the questions and the common responses from the participant’s bases for a
theme formulation. The formulated theme will then be analyzed for results and
discussion presentations to complete the study.
Based on the key points of the interview questions and recurrent themes in the
participants' answers, the researchers will use thematic analysis to find common
themes. These themes will serve as the foundation for the discussion and findings
presentation, demonstrating how purposive communication can successfully
overcome cultural barriers in a variety of settings.
