the anti-gunners is that the large gun manufactur-
ers somehow conspired to manipulate the well-
meaning, but dim, shooting public into desiring danger-

of their companies, so it’s OK to recall that they wanted
no part of “assault rifles,” and for years barred them from
the SHOT Show, before eventually ghettoizing them as
“law enforcement” products in a separate area.

now-departed execs, keep in mind that they came of age

was most of the way through. He used a punch

against the tip of the roll pin to finish the job.
As all of the remaining receiver parts in some
way affect each other (if only during installation),
I decided it was time to install the trigger group.
Unlike his father, who prefers crisp single-stage
triggers in his ARs, Barrett likes two-stage trig-
gers. I doubt this means he was secretly adopted,
but you never know.
I had a number of two-stage triggers on hand,
but as I wanted him to see exactly how the parts
work together, I decided against using a cassette
trigger system. Ultimately I chose an MBT (Me-
ticulously Built Trigger) from LaRue Tactical.
The MBT is a two-stage trigger group adver-
tised as providing a 4.5-pound trigger pull. The
trigger group is GI style in that all the pieces are
separate and need to be installed one at a time, as
opposed to a drop-in cassette trigger.
We dropped the trigger in, then slid the selec-
tor into place. Barrett had zero issues pinning
the trigger into place in the lower receiver, but
had some problems with the hammer. His fingers
weren’t quite strong enough to force the hammer
(against the spring legs) into place, so I did that
and he pushed the receiver pin through.
Up next was screwing in the receiver extension
(buffer tube), castle nut and receiver end plate,
and installing the buffer retaining pin/spring.
As the spring/detent pin for the rear receiver pin Tarr’s son immediately after assembling the AR, jazzed

Unsurprisingly, Barrett was able to do better groups at
50 yards using the dot than he was at 25 yards with the

of which is that putting the dot on the target and pulling
the trigger is easier than lining the front sight up with the
rear and aiming them at the target, then keeping them
steady as you pull the trigger.
After we returned home, I had Barrett remove the
bolt carrier group (BCG) and showed him how to take it
apart. I explained that it had to be assembled in the op-
posite order. I guess assembling all those Lego kits made
up of hundreds of pieces has helped with his puzzle solv-

“It means you need to clean your rifle.”
Since then we’ve taken to the great outdoors to send

to freeze water.

glass. I like the fact that all the components are sourced
from Japan rather than China or some other low bidder.
This Japanese optical house is capable of building superb
optics and well capable of challenging Europe’s finest.
This includes glass quality and lens design.
Each of the founding engineers of Deon Optical
Design has over three decades of experience in the high
precision optics industry. The scopes themselves are care-
fully built by hand in the traditional manner. Plus, each
scope is individually tested and inspected more than 20
times before being shipped.
I also found it noteworthy that all March scopes
are built using high-end low dispersion ED lenses. This
maximizes their performance potential.
March Optics has a diverse line of competition, hunt-
ing and tactical scopes. These range from a 2.5-25x42mm
to monsters like their 8-80x56mm.
The one that grabbed my attention was their

With all the mission essential equipment added to a
rifle today, ounces add up quickly. Back-up iron sights,
a white light, rail covers, sling, IR laser/illuminator can
all add a significant amount of weight to a light carbine.
So keeping the weight of an optical sight and mounting
system down is very important in my mind.
Two pounds of optic and mount will quickly turn a
nimble 8.5-pound carbine into a 10.5-pound club. So I
am impressed that March’s 1-10x24mm weighs in at just
18.7 ounces. That’s almost 6 ounces less than Burris’s
1-8x24mm XTR II I reviewed a few issues back.
Without a doubt, this particular model is a bit of a
compromise in design in order to pack as much punch as
possible into a compact package. This is most obvious in
the use of a relatively small 24mm objective lens.
This has its pluses and minuses. On the positive side,
the 24mm objective is compact, lightweight and performs
extremely well from 1X to 4X. As you push past 6X,
though, performance in low light scenarios drops off as
the exit pupil is reduced in size. March Optics’ 1-10x24mm was mounted using one of

which I’m sure would have met with the approval of un
instructeur de tir français des annèes 1930.
I experienced a few failures to extract and smokestack
jams with the 1935A, but the 1935S gobbled up every-
thing I put it its magazine and spat out the empty cases
with boring regularity.
I then ran the pair through offhand drills on combat
targets at 7 yards. Both pistols’ elegantly curved grips
provided excellent pointing characteristics which, com-
bined with the very mild recoil of the 7.65L cartridge,
made shooting them a pleasure. The 1935A put all its
rounds—except for one “mysterious” flyer—in the 9 and
10 rings but the 1935S bested it again with 14 out of 16
rounds in the 10-ring.
Over the years I have test fired a number of, what I
diplomatically refer to as “unique,” French military rifles
and handguns. I found the Modèle 1935A the most “nor-
mal” looking and operating of all of these. It was a well-
made, fine handling, accurate elegant looking handgun.
The Modèle 1935S proved just as reliable and, despite its
squared off profile, pointed very naturally and its sights
were far superior.
But in my opinion their most glaring shortcoming—the
anemic 7.65L cartridge—outweighed any positive quali-
ties they might have possessed. If push came to shove, I’d
rather have my Springfield XDm any day!
I would like to thank the following for providing in-
formation and materials used to prepare this report: Tim

Because the government has all those things, you know.”
Here, for once, the left-wing Sun manages to get something
right—even if they can’t seem to grasp that in America it’s the
people and not the government who do the “allowing.” Individual
Americans have a constitutional right to own any and all weapons
in possession of the government. Tenche Coxe, the friend of Madi-

Are these twits really unaware that it’s perfectly legal for law-
abiding Americans to own machine guns? Do they think the Bill of
Rights means private citizens may possess only 18th Century flint-
locks? Do they think the freedom of the press protects their right to
own and use only the kind of hand-presses that were in use in 1789? ALL TYPES OF QUALITY LEGAL MACHINE GUNS!
“Given that there’s no practical use for the magazines, there’s not
a downside… Residents in the Las Vegas Valley have every reason
to support reasonable restrictions on firearms,” the collectivists at
the Sun conclude.
Ah, just another “reasonable restriction.” And that’ll be the last
one, right?

The leftist media—including the Sun and their pals at the Wash-

Dean Neel, a Korean War veteran, testified before the House Ju-

his car—Jan. 21, 1994—he witnessed one of three escaping armed
thieves hide in the back of their stolen vehicle while Harris County
Deputy Sheriff Frank Flores attempted to place the other two cul-

him repeatedly in the back, shoulder and upper chest.
