CONDUCTION OF NORMAL DELIVERY

● Observe that the student is demonstrating the following steps of Conduction of normal vaginal delivery in the correct sequence and
technique.
● Each step performed correctly can be given a score of “1” and if the steps are not done /incorrectly/ incompletely done will be
scored as “0”.

4. Places the plastic sheet under the woman’s 1

woman’s bladder is not full (if the bladder 1is full,
and mother is unable to void, catheterization must
be considered) place the woman’s in dorsal
lithotomy position, cleans the woman’s perineum
and place clean drape on abdomen
7. Encourages the woman for breathing and small 1
pushes with contractions
8. Controls the birth of the head by using Ritgen’s 1
maneuver, fingers of one hand is used to exert
forward pressure on the chin of the fetus.
9. Provides perineal support with sterile pad to 1

18. Performs cord clamping cut between two clamps 1
placed 4-5cm from the fetal abdomen after initial
care of the newborn, clamp is applied 2-3cm from
the fetal abdomen
19. Thoroughly dries the baby and covers with the 1
clean, dry cloth, and assesses breathing.
20. Assess for signs of placental separation 1
21. Delivers the placenta 1
22. Examines the placenta 1
23. Disposes the placenta 1
24. Replaces the Articles 1
25. Documents the findings
