INVESTIGATE FIXING DETAILS

Fixing details of fibre cement siding board

1. Preparation:
Measuring and Cutting:
Determine the dimensions of the area and cut the fiber cement boards to size using a
circular saw with a diamond-tipped blade.
Support:
Ensure adequate support for the boards, typically using studs spaced 600mm apart for
timber frames.
Starting Strip:
Install a starting strip at the bottom of the wall to ensure the first row of boards is properly
aligned.
2. Fixing to Timber Frames:
Screws/Nails:
Use corrosion-resistant screws or nails, with a minimum length that allows for secure
attachment to the frame.
Spacing:
Position fasteners 12mm from the edges and 50mm from the corners, with a spacing of
200mm along the edges and 300mm in the middle.
Countersinking:
Ensure screws are countersunk slightly below the surface of the board to allow for a flush
finish.
Gap:
Leave a 1.5-2mm gap between boards to accommodate expansion and contraction.
3. Fixing to Metal Frames:
Screws: Use self-tapping screws designed for fiber cement boards.
Spacing: Follow the same spacing guidelines as for timber frames.
Overtightening: Avoid overtightening screws, as this can damage the boards.
4. Joints and Edges:
Sealant: Apply a sealant to fill the gaps between boards and around penetrations.
Taping: Use fiberglass tape to cover the sealant and provide a waterproof barrier.
Finishing: Apply a suitable primer and paint to protect the boards and achieve the desired
finish.

Fixing details of Exterior wood panelling

Detailed Steps:
1. Prepare the Surface:
Inspect the existing siding for damage and remove any loose or damaged boards.
Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dirt, mildew, and debris using a pressure washer.
Ensure the wall is straight and level before installing the new paneling.
2. Install Underlayment:
Install a weather-resistive barrier (WRB) or underlayment (like tar paper or house wrap)
between the siding and the sheathing to protect against moisture.
This layer is crucial for preventing water damage to the wall structure.
3. Install Panels:
Start with a starter plank, ensuring it’s level and properly aligned.
Cut and install subsequent planks, overlapping them according to the siding type and
manufacturer’s instructions.
For horizontal siding, nails should be placed close to the top edge of the overlapping board,
but not exceeding ¼ inch above the lower edge.
Use exterior-grade stainless steel nails or screws, particularly those with a flat head and
slight countersink for a flush finish

SIZE AND THICKNESS

TRANSITION BETWEEN DIFFERENT MATERIALS
Between different wall finishes: likely vertical or horizontal join trims or shadow gaps,
finished in a contrasting darker laminate or aluminum for crisp definition.
Between flooring and wall cladding: continuous skirting with a sealant joint at the bottom
to ensure smooth transition and hygiene compliance.
At openings/windows: likely aluminum extrusions with sealant, though detailed frame
junctions aren't visible in images.
