Course Description This is an overview of the Home Economics discipline including philosophy, Course Classification BTLE HE
areas of specialization, role in societal development. It includes history and BTVTE FSM
philosophy of Home Economics, areas of specialization and careers, family,
life and society and household resource management.

CLO1: Analyze the roles, responsibilities, and relationships within the home and family to promote strong family values, effective household management, and the
overall well-being of family members across different life stages.
CLO2: Apply design principles and techniques in planning and executing interior and exterior decoration projects that enhance the functionality, comfort, and aesthetic
appeal of living and working spaces using appropriate materials and tools.
CLO3: Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices of hygiene and sanitation by applying appropriate methods to maintain personal, household, and
environmental cleanliness in various livelihood settings, ensuring health and safety in accordance with national and international standards.

CLO4: Identify common household pests and apply effective, safe, and sustainable control measures in accordance with health, safety, and environmental standards to
maintain a pest-free home and livelihood environment.
CLO5: Apply basic safety principles and demonstrate proper use and management of first aid kits to respond effectively to common injuries and emergencies in the
home, school, and workplace settings, in compliance with standard health and safety protocols.
CLO6: Analyze the role of clothing in meeting the physical, psychological, and social needs of the family, and apply basic principles of clothing selection, care, and
construction to support family well-being and resource management.
CLO7: Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the selection, care, and maintenance of household linens to promote comfort, hygiene, and aesthetic value in the home, while
applying principles of fabric care and resource management.
CLO8: Plan, prepare, and evaluate nutritious, balanced, and cost-effective meals that meet the dietary needs of family members across different life stages, while applying

COURSE POLICIES 1. Attendance and Participation

● Regular attendance is expected. A student who misses more 2 meetings may receive a failing grade.
● Active participation in group discussions, consultations, and presentations is required.
2. Deadlines and Submission of Requirements
● All research outputs must be submitted on or before the scheduled deadlines.
● Late submissions are accepted only with valid reasons and may incur a grade deduction of 10% per day late, unless
otherwise excused.
3. Academic Integrity
● Plagiarism, data fabrication, and other forms of academic dishonesty are strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary
action.
● Students must properly cite all sources using APA style (or the preferred style of the department).
4. Group Work and Collaboration
● Students are expected to collaborate professionally within their assigned research groups.
● Group members should equitably share responsibilities. Peer evaluations may be used to assess individual contributions.
5. Consultations
● Regular consultations with the instructor or adviser are part of the research process.
● Missing a scheduled consultation without prior notice may affect the group’s progress and individual participation grade.
6. Revisions and Feedback
● Students must be open to feedback and are required to revise research outputs accordingly.
● Multiple drafts may be required before final submission.
7. Use of Devices
● Devices (laptops, tablets) may be used during class only for research-related tasks.
● Unauthorized use of mobile phones during class is discouraged unless permitted by the instructor.
