BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In this modern era, many things have evolved in technology, like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and
the Internet. People, mostly students, are using them for their academic life. The Internet
provides them unlimited educational resources, online classes, and communication.
At the same time, Artificial Intelligence— like chatbots, intelligent tutoring systems, and writing
tools, can help them anytime with their homework, projects, essays, and even other academic
problems. Students now rely heavily on these tools for assignments, research papers, or test
preparation.
However, by relying on these tools, they are now overdependent, reducing original thinking, and
possibly academic dishonesty. But despite the widespread use of AI and Internet tools, their
true impact on students' academic performance is still not clear. There is a need to understand
whether these technologies genuinely enhance learning or create challenges that affect
academic outcomes.
This study aims to examine the influence of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet on Students in
their academic life, identifying both the benefits and potential drawbacks, and providing insights
for students on responsible and effective technology use in education.
This shift has improved the efficiency and quality of academic content, yet it also raises ethical
concerns regarding authorship, originality, and maintaining academic rigor (Solak, 2024). This
states that many of the students rely on Artificial Intelligence, not on their own understanding or
Intelligence. Also, by using AI, students may not be able to think or form their own opinions
because they are dependent on that tool.
According to Adronisha (2024), the practical applications of AI in future studies should explore
how to best implement AI tools while advancing knowledge and maintaining academic integrity
as students and faculty become more technologically literate citizens. Studies in educational
technology have acknowledged that social and ethical implications arise from the advancement
of AI.
The Internet is very helpful for students in their academic performance since most of the time
the information they need is not in the library or a physical book, but on the Internet.
Yet for De Guevara Rodríguez et al. (2024), it can also have a negative influence, which may be
a consequence of replacing time to academic activities (e.g., reading books or homework) with
time using the Internet, which can also ultimately lead students to adopt unhealthy study habits
that can affect their future academic success.
