Safety
When servicing a shredder, observe the following safety precautions:
Never put a hand, fingers, or foreign objects into the paper feed slot or throat.
Keep all loose articles of clothing, ties, jewelry, long hair, or other loose objects away from the
paper feed slot.
Always turn off and unplug the power cord at the wall outlet before doing any work on a
shredder.
Use only the specified replacement parts. (See the Parts manual).
Wall Mounting
The 325i and 325Ci shredders include a wall mounting kit (PN 31742). This kit is used to secure
the shredder to a wall to comply with UL 60950 stability requirements. The wall mounting kit
contains a spacer that allows the shredder to be mounted slightly away from the wall for proper
ventilation. (Note: This is optional for the end user)
General Maintenance
The shredders are designed to perform consistently with a minimum amount of maintenance. This
section contains recommendations for external and internal cleaning, inspection, and lubrication.
External Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the shredder with a soft cloth. Moisten the cloth with a mild solution of
detergent (such as dish-washing liquid) and warm water. Use detergent sparingly to avoid contact
with electrical parts.
Do not use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based products, or aerosol lubricants of any kind.
Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or aerosol sprays to clean the exterior of the shredder.
Internal Cleaning
The shredder does not require periodic internal cleaning. However, when the shredder is being
serviced perform the following maintenance tasks:
Remove any paper strips or pieces that may have collected around the cutting assembly.
If lubricated parts are dusty; wipe away the dust with a soft cloth.
Use a small brush or vacuum to remove dust from the non-lubricated surfaces such as the
motor, cutting assembly, housing, and wiring.
Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or aerosol sprays to clean the interior of the shredder.
Inspection
When the shredder is being serviced, visually inspect it for defects such as loose screws, loose
terminals and connectors, and any other issues you may notice.
Correct any defects and test before returning the shredder to the customer.

jam. See Troubleshooting, Paper Feed Problems for more information.
Lubrication
325i
The 325i shredder does not require to be oiled.
325Ci
If used at or near capacity for an extended time the 325Ci shredder should be oiled every 30
minutes. If not it should be oiled after every bag change.
Use Fellowes Powershred Lubricant (#35250) or other non-aerosol vegetable-based oil to lubricate
the cutters.
WARNING: Do not use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based products, or aerosol
lubricants of any kind, as this could void the warranty.
10
Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting the shredder begins with checking the machine for possible faults. Possible
causes for machine malfunctions include:
• Paper feed problems
• CD/DVD feed problems
• Electrical problems
• Mechanical problems
Paper Feed Problems
Paper can become jammed if the paper is misfed. Paper may also jam if the waste bin is full or if
there is a build up of paper shreds along the underside of the cutting assembly.
The Remove Paper, Bin Full, and Sheet Capacity LEDs help to identify paper feed problems.
If the Bin Full LED is on, check the waste bin and empty if needed. Replace the bin and make sure
the door open switch is fully engaged by closing the door. The Bin Full LED should go off.
CAUTION! Never attempt to force jammed material through the machine.
The 325i and 325Ci shredders use several methods to automatically reduce jam and misfeed
issues.
• If paper misfeeds and shredding stops wait 6 seconds for the shredder to attempt to power
through the misfeed. If it is unable to power through, the shredder will attempt to reverse
the paper out.
• If the power feed does not clear the jam, and the red indicator stays on, reduce paper by
pulling out excessive amount out until the red light is off and the yellow lights are on.
Continue shredding.
CAUTION! The shredder may be damaged if you alternate too rapidly between forward and
reverse.
11
Electrical Problems
The most common electrical problems result from:
1. An opened cabinet door
2. Loose wires
3. A defective PC board
4. Safe Sense feature being engaged
5. Anti-Jam module detecting paper overload
6. Bin full detection system not operating correctly
If the waste bin is not placed properly in the cabinet, the shredder will not operate.
• The Door Open LED will help to identify this problem.
• Check the door to make sure it closes properly and engages the door open switch.
• Press the Power button on the Control Panel, and then press the AUTO button.
If paper is in the entry slot, and the shredder does not operate
• Press and hold the Forward switch briefly to start the shredding operation
• Check Anti-Jam indicator panel to see if module is indicating paper overload
• Make sure Safe Sense is not engaged
If the PC board is defective.
• The shredder may not run at all
• Another indication that the PC board is defective might be if the shredder runs in reverse,
but not forward or the LED lights do not turn on
If the capacitor is defective.
• A typical problem caused by a defective capacitor is no motor function
If the Safe Sense feature is being engaged
• Your Safe Sense indicator will illuminate
• The cutting system will not function
If the Anti-Jam module is detecting paper overload
• The Sheet Capacity LED’s will illuminate all the way to the top
• The shredder will not accept paper
If the Bin full detection system is not operating correctly
• The bin full indicator will illuminate
• The shredder will not accept any paper
12
Mechanical Problems
Mechanical problems can often be identified by listening to the sound of the machine when it is
operating and observing whether the paper cutting capacity drops
If a strip-cut shredder is making excessive noise.
• The cutting cylinders may need a small amount of oil applied to them
o This only applies if the shredder is squeaking
• Gears may need to be replace
If a cross-cut shredder is making excessive noise.
• The cutting cylinders may need to be oiled.
• Gears may need to be replaced.
• The cutting system may have broken paper strippers
o This will require the whole cutting block to be replaced.
