Battletech Bounty CYOA - V0-3
Bounty CYOA
Personal
You have 5 Personal Points to change what kind of person the new you will be!
Basic Tuneup - FREE.
Look, I’m doing this a bunch to see what happens. The first few folks didn’t do so
hot. A lot of you aren’t in shape or have problems that would prevent you being a
mechwarrior. I’ll tune you up so you’re at least fighting fit. Four working limbs,
20/20 vision, the muscle mass and knowledge of somebody that went through
military training, neurocompatibility with mechs, and a basic grasp of the local
area I drop you in. If you’ve got a crippling condition, I can fix that too.
Cosmetics - FREE
If I’m doing all that work on your body, changing your looks is pretty easy to do
alongside it. Make you a 10/10, change your skin color, age you up or down, give
you a 12 inch dong or breasts the size of soccer balls. Flip your sex if being Flank
Beefsteak or the little girl is your thing. Try to keep it in human possibility
though. No aliens in this ‘verse, and I can’t give you cartoon physics, so those
oversized genitalia will definitely get in the way.
Ace Pilot - 1 PP
I'm gonna give you a basic knowledge and reflex package, but if you want I can
make it a whole lot better. This one will boost you into the ranks of the Dustin
Xiao-Longs and Gray Nortons. You’ll be a crack shot and an expert pilot. And
that's all anyone ever needs in this 'verse, right?
Smooth Operator - 1 PP
Yeah a lot of you don't have people skills. But now you can! Be the suave, smooth
talking, silver tongued charmer with an appropriate thing to say at any given
moment. Great for contract negotiations and peace talks. Also talking people into
bed, I guess. Pretty sure there aren't any real 'waifus' or 'husbandos' here, but the
last guy tried to marry Malvina Hazen, so I never know with you grogs.
Tactical Genius - 1 PP
CREE- oh wrong 'verse. Your enemies' plans will seem amateurish, and you'll
arrange unconventional ambushes, objective victories and generally run rings
around the opposition, provided you can get people to follow your bizarre
seeming orders.
Clan Genotype - 1 PP
This one is in 'verse, so it's cheap. Be genetically predisposed to being a great
pilot/warrior. I’ll just make you a mechwarrior unless you want a specific type or
subtype. I don’t really care if it’s out of timeline. Also, you’ll look good and live a
pretty long time, though I guess the first one is covered by Cosmetics. No goofy
ideology required, and I’ll even minimize the physical drawbacks. Unless of course,
being built like an industrial fridge or being extra smol is your thing. I won't judge.
Study - 1 PP
A catchall of sorts. Wanna be a battlemech engineer? Jumpship technician?
Understand the insanity of FASA-nomics? This gives you the equivalent of 8 years
of study and practice at an in-universe profession or field of study. No degree you
can point to unless you also take Connected though. You can buy this one
multiple times.
Land - 1 PP
You own some useful land. Sorry, no Castle Brians, but you can have a large tract
of land, non-battlemech factory, old military base, or a space station on a world of
middling importance. Alternately a large building on a major world, a continent
on a neo-barb planet, or a whole undeveloped planet.
Fat Stacks - 2 PP
Ah the oldest power. Money! Lots and lots of money. It's just a big bank account
with 500 million C-bills, but if you have Connected with either Noble or Land,
profits from your holdings will pay out into the account.
Noble - 1 PP
It's just a minor title with an undeveloped tract of land in whatever polity you
chose. But in a place like this, that title will open a lot of doors. Minor noble, and
it won’t get you as far, but you'll have a lot fewer enemies, since nobody cares
enough to go out of their way to screw you. If you spend an extra point here, you
can get a major title and the landhold is a free buy of the Land perk with whatever
choice you like.
Cameron Blood - 2 PP
Really, the best thing an aspiring lostech hunter could ask for. Open facilities, have
Star League computer systems give up their secrets at a word. Good luck coming
up with a cover story on that. Clone? Bastard? Play yourself off as just as surprised
to find out?
Mystic Visions - 2 PP
No magic in this 'verse, but this exists. Go figure. You've got prophetic dreams, spirit
visions, a sixth sense for things or something like that. 1 point less if you took
Cameron Blood or Clan Genotype, but in the latter case you'll be genetically
identifiable as a Nova Cat or Goliath Scorpion.
Army of One - 1 PP
You already get military basic, but this is what you take if you want to be one of
those FPS protagonists. Flawless melee skills, marksmanship, infantry tactics,
familiarity with basically every personal weapon in the setting. Won’t help in a
mech, but it’ll help you not get killed on the way to the cockpit. I’m obliged to
point out that for an extra point you can get mystic chi fists, because apparently
that’s not magic. Karate chop through guns and punch hard enough to shatter
personal armor. Because of the way the ‘verse works, stereotypes make it easier. If
you are identifiably Capellan or Drac, the chi upgrade is free.
Phantom - 3 PP
This fucking ‘verse, I swear. Ahem. The skill that makes you an untouchable
monster on the battlefield. Nobody can target any mech, fighter, or vehicle you
pilot. As long as you’re the one working the controls, no sensors can detect you
except the good ol’ Mk. I eyeball. Yep. Totally a skill. Not magic.
Fusion Insert - 5 PP
If all of that isn't enough from you, I can just smash you into the brain and body of a
canon character. This can get you a bunch of the rest and a higher level of authority
and landholds all at once. It takes all your PP though. You’ll need to spend Wild
points to add skills and traits after picking this. If you choose Nicholai Malthus, I’ll
give you an extra Wild point for being so dedicated to the meme.
Got it? Don’t worry too much, you can come back here later. Moving on!
It’s Battletech, tech’s in the name. You get the most points here, but don't have to
spend it all on mechs. Heck, if you really insist, I'll let you buy a warship, though it'll cost
you most of your points here plus some in the next bit. This IS Battletech though, so I
insist that you go in with at least one mech. You even can buy more than one, though
you’ll either have to pay for crew or find pilots after you get there.
So before anything else - what Tech Level do you want to be working with?
Succession Wars Tech - Free.
I mean, if you insist. It'll be easy to repair in any era, but then you're stuck with heavy
standard engines, standard internals, basic lasers, missiles and cannon. And ugh,
single heat sinks. Hardly any special equipment either. Tell you what, you can have
Triple Strength Myomer.
Alright, with that tech level in mind, How heavy a mech or mechs do you want?
Light Class - First one FREE. Two for 1 point after that.
20 to 35 tons. Not tough mechs, but they can go real fast. Well. SOME of them. Tell
you what. You pick a Urbanmech and no other battlemechs and I'll even give you
an extra tech point for other stuff. I don’t care if you want the one with the Arrow
IV launcher so long as it’s stock.
Medium Class - 1 TP
40 to 55 tons. This basic standard mech according to the 'verse. Some of them go
fast, some of them hit hard, some are tough for their size, but none of them do all
at once.
Heavy Class - 2 TP
60 to 75 tons. The basic standard mech according to the . Usually slower, but
tougher and punchier than mediums.
Assault Class - 4 TP
80 to 100 tons. The big boys. Bigger and slower with massive arsenals and armor
slabs. You're gonna get shot a lot, but you've got the armor to tank it and the guns
to make the other guy regret it.
Killdozer - 2-for-1
Maybe you want to be one of those factory-runner folks or base-building boys. Pay the listed
price for mechs, but get two Industrialmechs for each Battlemech you would have gotten.
You know, going into battle on a refit tractor or bulldozer takes some serious balls. It’s
not even a real war machine. If you take only Industrialmechs, take an extra Tech
point and get a Solaris Custom Job on all of them for free. Security and Militia mechs
count - they’re built on Industrial frames.
And there’s other tech stuff for you to pick up. Like ships! You only get one
Dropship though. No ditching the mech combat to buy 8 Leopards. Mech to
mech fighting will happen, that’s not even in my control.
Leopard Dropship – 1 TP
The basic bitch option, but cheap and easy to fix. Carries 4 mechs. 6 if you’re willing to
cram a couple sideways into the fighter bays. If you bought higher tech levels, you can
get an era appropriate variant. If you got Clan Tech, you may upgrade to a
Broadsword that carries 5 mechs.
Union Dropship - 2 TP
The next most common option. This big beach ball can carry 12 mechs, 14 if you lay a
couple of ‘em down in the fighter bays. Same as above, if you bought higher tech
levels, you can get an era appropriate variant. You may upgrade to a Union-C that
carries 15 mechs if you got Clan tech.
Large Dropship - 3 TP
Dropships so big they take up multiple collars on a dropship. These aren’t even meant
to land on a planet, so ‘dropship’ is a bit of a misnomer. I really don’t think you need
this, but hey, if you wanna play space captain, sure. You can have a Behemoth and I’ll
toss in a few shuttles and aerospace fighters for free. For one more point, you can get
the only other Argo-class - the Myrmidon, and an extra Leopard. Hope you’ve got Fat
Stacks or something else to pay for maintenance and jump fees.
Jumpship - 1 TP
You don’t really need this unless you’re going traipsing around the Periphery or out
into the unexplored black. But here you go. Your own Invader jumpship. A spindly,
fragile, FTL transport. For one more point, you can get any other type of jumpship.
Monitor - 4 TP
The Discount Dan warship. When you really need to keep one single place safe,
because it can’t go FTL. Could be useful, but that’s a big chunk of points on
something stuck in a single system.
Warship - 10 TP
You really don’t need this. I’m not sticking you into the Amaris Civil War or anything.
But hey, if you really wanna blow all your points on this, fine. Pick an SLDF ship. Same
rules as the dropships - you can have a Clan or later era ship if you bought the
tech for it.
Automated 2 TP
Okay, you hikkokomori, Some of these ships already have some automation,
but with this I’ll set up your ship and mechtech needs to be completely handled by
automatic systems. I’ll even throw in the knowledge to fix them. One purchase per
ship. If you like, I can apply it to your extra mechs on those ships, but this turns them
into Drones, so watch out for ECM.
Alternate Dropship - 1 TP
Getting you something that’ll get you from A to B with your mechs is all I want to do,
but if you insist I can give you something punchier. With this you can pick a different
dropship in the approximate weight class. A Leopard can become any dropship under
3,000 tons, a Union can be any dropship under 5,000 tons, and the Large Dropship can
be any dropship under 50,000 tons. Tech level limits apply. Can’t bring that Wobbie
Pentagon if you didn’t pay for Jihad tech.
Dripship - 2 TP
This is your Solaris Custom, but for dropships. Want to strip out all those Mech Bays for
several hundred tons of Double Heat Sinks and ER Large Lasers to turn than Union into
a disco ball of death? Gold plate the entire interior just to flex? Turn the gym into a mech
simulator room? If it’s game legal, it flies
Of course, there’s also some other tech stuff you could pick up if you wanted.
Support Vehicles - 1 TP
A dozen vehicles of various descriptions. Flatbeds, recovery vehicles, jeeps, simple helis,
hoverlimos, cherry-pickers, cross-lifters, cranes - whatever you want. This universe really
doesn’t care about these things. Tech Level applies, and you’ve got crew that knows
how to use them if your ship has crew.
Battle Armor - 1 TP
Twenty suits of powered armor in the half-ton to 2-ton weight range. Almost
unknown prior to the Clan Invasion, could be useful for shock and awe. Tech Level
and Crew apply - You need Star League or better tech to pick this.
Specialized Crew - 1 TP
Most dropships and crew are going to be pilots, spacehands, technicians, drivers, etc.
Maybe you want some specialists - explorers, colonists, architects, construction
workers, Star League cryptographers, whatever. Your spare passenger space on your
dropship will get occupied by some of your specialized crew and some of their
personal equipment. 1 point gets you any mix of specialists that will fit on one ship.
Knight Rider - 1 WP
I’ll give your mech and/or ship an AI. Actual intelligence, and no chance of going
Skynet on you. Sorry, no seed AI, but if you have to you can move their briefcase
sized quantum core and plug it into a different ship/mech. Configure their
personality however you want.
AU Edit - 1 WP
This isn’t strictly speaking, a personal power. You tell me what you want to
change about the canon timeline, and I’ll give the ‘verse a few nudges to do what
you want. Keep in mind that anything big or too far back might butterfly away a
lot of the original timeline’s names and events - might even invalidate most of the
Bounties and Missions. One desired outcome, or one specific change per Point
spent.
Montage Master - 1 WP
This lets you teach other people how to do what you do in no time flat. Well, not no
time, but you can get people to a basic level of proficiency inside of a week. Which
might not sound like much, but Phantom Mech is a skill. Teach others lesser
versions of any of your Personal perks. For two extra points you can point you can
teach others any Wild perks at 3 points or less.
Chromed Out – 2 WP
Whatever cyber mods you want. I’ll even make them able to interface with your
mech and ship. No more dumb looking neurohelms for you! Get some of that
sweet ENHANCED IMAGING action without the drawbacks. No cyberpsychosis or
essence loss or whatever. If you limit yourself to ‘ware from Shadowrun, it’ll be
easier for me, and it’ll cost one point less. Careful if combining with Fusion Insert.
Adjusting the timelines of big names is a pain. Some histories are easier to fudge
than others, so you may or may not get mistaken for an imposter.
Bio-beast – 2 WP
Whatever biomods you want. Muscle augs, acid glands, regen factor, orthoskin, etc.
Same deal as the chrome - limit yourself to ‘ware from Shadowrun, easier on me,
costs one point less. Do note that this is just mods. You can’t go full Kerrigan unless
you also pick up Psychic Powers and use the extra point. Same warning about
Fusion Insert, but this is a little easier to hide.
Psychic Powers – 2 WP
I can’t sneak any magic in, but there are loopholes. This is a little more overt, but
still pretty useful. Basic psychic package – telekinesis, telepathy, minor
precognition and psychometry. Great at personal scale, kinda useless at mech
scale. For one more point, you can either add one extra psychic power to that list
or boost the power of all of the basics.
Game Mechanics - 3 WP
One of my favorites, really. The conceptual link lets me tweak things so that
get to run on game mechanics. Any connected game works. Battletech 2018? A
Time of War? Mechwarrior Online? Mechwarrior 2? You and your stuff function
based on the mechanics you decide from moment to moment. Highly suggest
MWO to avoid knockdowns, overheat penalties, and pilot death. Oh, if you take a
Quickdraw-4G, you can have the 1000% missile cooldown for it. Don’t explode from
overheating.
Resleeve - 4 WP
I think this one is boring, but it's still an option. Your new body is just a sleeve. You
can restore from backup, and I’ll give you a clone facility you can either put on a
planet or your ship for replacement. For an extra point, I’ll let you activate multiple
clones and pilot them all as a hive mind. All your active bodies have to be in the
same star system though.
Genre Shift - 4 WP
There’s no bigger shakeup than a genre shift. The mechs will still be there, but you
can shift them to secondary importance. Maybe shift from mech jocks with a side
of politics and spycraft to slice of life with mech-based cooking, or Hot-blooded
shonen with a side of mecha sportsball. Whatever you change, you can’t get rid of
the mechs or add magic - sorry, hard rules.
Super Robot – 5 WP
If you really want to shit all over the setting you can have some kind of super mech
on standby to show up with an appropriate sentai phrase. A Gundam, a
Megadeuce, Nightmare Frame or something. I really mean robot though. None of
those cyborg godlings with mommy souls. I mean, hey, if you really want to get
crazy, I’ll give you a Gunmen. You gotta provide the drills though.
Author’s Favorite - 5 WP
Protagonist power is a pretty big trump card. No months of tedious rep building as
a merc, there’s an emergency and you’ll impress immediately. Trying to solve a
mystery? No legwork for you, you're going to trip over clues like you’re Velma.
Circumstances are going to go your way a lot. Heck, picking this almost guarantees
you won’t kick it for a minimum of fifty years. Downside, your life is never going to
be peaceful. At best you'll get a few years in-between big events, but something is
always going to come up. I would really rather you didn’t take this. It gets boring
fast, for both of us.
Bounties are pretty simple. They’re like… Achievements. You do a thing, and you’ll get
the payout. Usually this is just ‘kill a guy’ but other singular acts count. These don’t
have much in the way of time limits, other than the target needs to be alive for you to
kill them or exist for you to take. You can also be a smartass about them if you want.
‘Sit on the throne of a nation’ doesn’t necessarily mean become a ruler. You can sneak
into the throne room at night and put your feet up. Or sit in it during a photo op or
something. I don’t care if you want to be all Nova Cat about it, it’s more fun that way.
You do have to be actively doing something for those kill bounties though. They keel
over of old age through no effort on your part, you get nothing. They have a heart
attack because you showed up on their front porch, it counts. Each bounty you do
gets you one TP or PP worth of perks to keep when you return to your world.
