3. TechSim 9 Main Features

3.1. Remote Support and Subscription Licensing
The Customer Service is a remote support tool intended to give customers a more convenient way to send
reports to Wartsila Support Centre on the simulator problems which they are experiencing. The Customer
Service is also used to remotely manage customer licenses, to install updates, etc.
The following license options can be purchased:
▪ 1350 DMS CERT.
This option contains the Distribution and Management System (DMS) certificate and enables the connection
of the simulator with Sim Remote Support cloud Customer Service. Each customer is identified in the DMS
by the personal DMS certificate.
This license is needed for the online license verification and license updates. As soon as the new license is
issued, it is automatically downloaded to the simulator server. The Router will notify the user about the new
available license on the simulator next start-up.
▪ 1450 Subscription.
This option allows setting an expiration date for commercial licenses. The license Value = date (e.g., before
1.1.2022). The license can be issued to expire on the first day of any month.
The simulator will notify the user about the upcoming expiration date on every start-up. On the expiration
date the simulator operation will be automatically blocked.
▪ 1452 Online license verification.
This option allows setting the Value = number of days during which the simulator can work offline after the
last successful verification of the license with the Sim Remote Support service (the enabled 1350 option is
required). When this period is over the simulator will require an internet connection to verify the license. If no
internet connection is available, the simulator will be automatically blocked.
The Value = 0 means that verification is not needed. After the simulator first installation the non-zero value
in this license option will block the simulator start until the license is verified for the first time.
The simulator will notify the user about an upcoming date of verification on every start-up. The blocked
simulator will be operable if the license is still valid and is verified when the internet connection is available.
The TechSim software license options are issued separately for:
▪ TechSim platform. The license covers the platform components as described in the commercial
specification.
▪ Simulator models. Each model installed to operate in the TechSim platform is licensed.
▪ Exercise packages. Additional packages of exercises to be used in models are licensed. The license for the
default exercises supplied with the model is included in the model license.
The Instructor can review the licensing state of all the models and their exercises installed in the configuration.

TechSim 9 Main Features • Localization of Simulator Interface

3.2. Localization of Simulator Interface

The platform interface is localized for the Instructor, console, and e-Tutor applications. The language can be
selected in the Configuration Editor for the created Root. This selection also enables model interface localization
if the necessary locale files are supplied.
Separate Root shortcuts may be created for different language localizations.
The platform localization currently includes the English, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese languages. The default
platform interface language is English US. If the selected language interface file is not present for a module its
interface is displayed in the default language.
By default, simulator models are provided with the English US interface. Translation of the model interface may
be done by using the Linguist application which installer and help files are available in the platform installation
package.
Translated interface file collections are installed to the <simulator>\Localization path and contain sub-folders for
the Models and Platform localization files.
The platform and models will not need to be rebuilt for using the localization, which is applied as a simulator
configuration setting.

3.3. External Milestone CCTV System Support

The external MilestoneCCTV application can be selected and set up in the simulator configuration to allow the
instructor record video files along with recording training log files.
The MilestoneCCTV application has its own installer and the help file which are are available in the platform
installation package.

3.4. VR Control in First-Person View

In the simulator, the Oculus Rift VR headset and touch controllers may be used to operate in the first-person
view (3D-tour mode). Operation would vary for simulator models as they implement the full or partial support for
the VR control mode. The difference is related to the VR control in the local operation posts (panels) which may
provide 2D and/or 3D control options.
The following functions of the VR touch controllers and headset are implemented.
▪ Avatar forward/backward movement.
▪ Avatar instant 90° turn. The exact direction of the intended movement is indicated by turning the trainee
head. The projection of the gaze direction vector on a horizontal plane serves as a vector of the trainee’s
movement direction.
▪ Selection of the instant transportation point. When the trainee presses a touch controller button, a beam
shoots out from the index finger of the virtual right hand with the target sign which shows the position where
the avatar is instantly transported to when the button is released.
▪ Selection of an active object. When the trainee presses a touch controller button, a beam shoots out from
the index finger of the virtual right hand with a glowing dot at the end of the beam. It is then possible to give
commands to the selected object by using the touch controller joystick or buttons.
▪ Continuous (range -100/+100) movement of the selected object. This operation allows to operate valves,
switches, and sliders.
▪ Send binary (0/1) commands to a selected active object, e.g., press a button, turn a handle, open a door.
▪ Open and close a selected 2D control panel. Zoom in/out a selected 2D control panel to place it for the
comfortable operation.

parameters which he/she wants to control and assigns values to them. The script is activated from a rule by an
execution condition. One exercise can contain several scripts.
This functionality may be used to automate the learning process.

3.8. TRNetwork 6.0

New TRNetwork 6.0 is integrated with the TechSim 9 platform. Components of the “Configuration Editor” and
“Router” applications, and “Debug” window were updated. New QT interface of TRNetwork was implemented.
New architecture is based on services that convert data into modern RPC-requests and allows to process data
using modern methods. New services also allow remote access to the simulator for configuration settings and
error detection.

3.9. Full Mission Configuration Templates

Installation of the Full Mission simulator configuration can be optimized, and installation costs reduced by using
the set of configuration templates. Templates are developed based on typical Full Mission hardware set used for
models of the LCHS simulators family.

3.10. Exercise with Customized Console

A new Console Customization plugin is developed for the Instructor application.
If an exercise is designed to work with only one ship system, the instructor can hide other model system pages
for loading to the trainee's station. Hidden systems will work automatically, and only the necessary system
pages will be available for trainee’s control.
Thus, the trainee will not be distracted from fulfilling the exercise task. Also, the trainee console will be loading
faster because not all the simulator pages will be loaded.

TechSim 9 Main Features • Adding Variables to e-Tutor Rules from Slave Monitor

3.11. Adding Variables to e-Tutor Rules from Slave

Monitor
The functionality significantly simplifies creation of rules in e-Tutor exercises. The instructor can select the
necessary control for e-Tutor rule on the simulator page of the Slave monitor. It is an alternative to using the
“Add parameter” window.
With the help of drop-down menus, the instructor can assign a condition by which the selected control
parameter change will be checked and can set a test value to be checked. If several variables are linked to the
parameter, the necessary variable can be selected from the menu.
The instructor will only have to combine the variables into logical groups and add a reaction to the rule.
