aircraft models.

2. REASON

The aim of this Service Letter is to advise customers about methods and procedures for the
servicing of pneumatic de-icer boots. The recommendations described herein are the result of
the experience gathered by ATR throughout word fleet feedback and should be treated as
supplemental of the aircraft's basic maintenance program.

3. DESCRIPTION

The de-icers are subjected to a normal abrasion that can be accentuated by adverse
environmental conditions (sand, dust, etc). Moreover, because of their location, they can be
contaminated by engine oil, hydraulic fluid and exhaust gases with a resulting negative impact
of the boots life.
For these reasons, de-icer boots should be inspected routinely for evaluating the condition of
the boots, detecting the defects and therefore repaired as required.

What follows is a list of suggested maintenance practices. Operators are encouraged to define
the program most suitable to their particular operating environment.

4. BOOTS LIFE AND PERIODICAL MAINTENANCE

Reliability data show a significant improvement in de-icers boots life for operators that have put
in place a specific and periodical inspection/maintenance program for this system. Based on
this feedback, ATR recommends to perform the following maintenance actions every A check
(and anyway at the beginning of the cold season):

- Check that the boot is fully attached to the leading edge and that the boot surface is smooth
and in good condition (no scuffs, abrasion, cuts, etc.).

Refer to ATR AMM (JIC) 30-11-00 GVI 10000

Refer to ATR AMM (JIC) 30-11-00 SRV 10020

- If necessary repair the boot in accordance with equipment CMM.

Refer to ATR AMM (JIC) 30-11-00 REP 10040.

- Clean the boots with water and a non-acid soap (CASTILE SOAP).

- Apply the PRENITE GRAPHITE on all the de-icers surface (this product protects the boots
and ensures the electrical continuity with the aircraft structure).

For the application of these products, customers can refer to equipment CMM and to
AERAZUR documents:

- ARZ-SL-30-002

- Maintenance practices 204S014.

The interval for the application of the aforementioned products depends on the environmental
conditions in which operator is flying (for example a sandy environment would need a more
frequent application). The customer, based on its experience, may decide to increase or
decrease the frequency of the application.
