Safety Precautions
Thunderstorm Corrosion
Power supply and high-altitude work are strictly prohibited in thunderstorm weather.
Anti-corrosion measures are required if the RTN 380AN is installed in an area prone to corrosion. Contact the local
Huawei office for details. An area is corrosion-prone if it is:
Cold and Hot Weather
Within 3.7 km of an ocean or a salt lake.
The RTN 380AN is usually installed outdoors. In this case, installation personnel must strictly comply with local Within 3 km of a major pollution source, such as a smelting plant or coal mine.
regulations on outdoor cold and hot operations to ensure their health and personal safety.
Within 2 km of a medium pollution source, such as a chemical, rubber, or electroplating plant.
Within 1 km of a light pollution source, such as a food processing plant, leather processing plant, or heating boiler.
Working at Heights
Handling and Hoisting Heavy Objects
The RTN 380AN is usually installed in a high location, such as on a tower or on the roof of a building. Adhere to
the following guidelines when working at heights: When handling and hoisting heavy objects, use the tools or machinery specified by local regulations and strictly
follow the following guidelines:
Installation personnel must have proper training and qualifications and meet health requirements for
working at heights specified in local laws and regulations. All personnel must wear reliable safety helmets, protective clothing, gloves, and shoes.
During installation, wear a reliable safety helmet and full body harnesses and work in pairs or teams. Make sure the path is clear of obstructions for lifting.
Do not lift a heavy object over the head. Use tools or machinery instead.
Do not work at heights during thunderstorms, blizzards, gales, or other extreme weather conditions. When
working at heights, installation personnel should wear clothes, gloves, and shoes that are wind-resistant, When hoisting heavy objects, keep vigilant against falling objects and evacuate nearby personnel to a safe area.
warm, and skid-resistant. To prevent damage to the pulley or lifting sling, do not overload or improperly use hoisting equipment.

Safety Precautions
Do not leave any Ethernet cable unconnected (as shown in Figure 1).
If an Ethernet service port is not in use, remove the cable from it and fasten a PG connector or
protective cover onto it.

Precautions for Local Maintenance
When the RTN 380AN is installed on a self-supporting tower, maintenance personnel can hardly perform off-tower maintenance through WLAN, because the RTN 380AN is installed at a high
position. You can use the following methods to solve this issue:
① When an NE receives and transmits services through the P&E port, you are advised to use an extra outdoor ② If an NE receives and transmits services through the 10GE optical port, no extra outdoor network cable is

Aligning Antennas
Aligning Single-Polarized Antennas
Determine the azimuth of the antennas according to the installation position and height of the
antennas. Then adjust the elevation of the antennas to the horizontal position. Adjust the elevation adjustment bolt. At the local end, rotate the antenna vertically and gently adjust
the elevation until the RSL reaches the maximum peak.
Repeat steps 3 to 4 to ensure that three signal peaks are tracked in both horizontal and vertical
directions. When the RSL reaches the maximum peak value in both horizontal and vertical directions,

scope, see Appendixes.
Adjust the remote antenna. Ensure that the RSL of both the local and remote antennas reaches the
peak value.
Connect a multimeter to the RSSI port on the RTN 380AN at the local end and measure the voltage value V BNC.
Tighten all the screws of the antennas after the alignment is completed.
Keep the remote antenna fixed. Adjust the azimuth adjustment bolt and widely rotate the antenna at the
local end in the horizontal direction.
a. If three signal peaks are tracked, adjust the azimuth of the antenna until the received signal level (RSL)
reaches the peak at position 2.
b. If two signal peaks are scanned, adjust the azimuth of the antenna to the middle of positions 4 and 5.
Then, adjust the elevation of the antenna so that the three signal peaks (like the signal peaks on the line
