Belt is the main element and installed between exciting and tensioning drums. A
motor coupled with a reducer box, between two drums, excites belt conveyor. There are
troughing idlers which trough and carry the loaded belt and they are equally spaced. Also
there are guiding idlers placed vertically to prevent belt moving on its plane and maintain the
belt upon a straight course.
There are two belt scrapers; one at the head section and at the front.

Correct belt tensioning is important for life of the belt. Hence a tensioning
adjustment should be controlled weekly or a working period of minimum 40 hours. When belt
adjustment is required, each tensioning screw should be equally adjusted. Over tensioning is
as dangerous as slackness. Belt tension must be such a value sufficient to prevent skidding
of belt in loaded position.
b) STARTING UP:
Correct rotation of the motor and gearbox must be checked; if incorrectly wired,
wiring must be changed.
Never start the belt conveyor before all safety instructions have
been fulfilled.
The conveyor is run in unloaded position for a short time and observed if the belt
alignment is true. If not; the belt running on to the tail drum is observed and the appropriate
return idlers are adjusted.(Belt training)

DO NOT ATEMPT to train the belt by unequal adjustment off screw take-ups.
Bear in mind that a misaligned conveyor installation will cause the belt to run to
one side, always toward the side of the idler it first touches. Start by aligning the return side
first. Starting at the head end, adjust the forth or fifth idler, before the run-out point, and
each succeeding idler up to the run-out point.
It is better to adjust a number of idlers a small amount than adjusting than one or
two idlers a great deal. To adjust the idlers, loosen the mounting bolts and using a soft
hammer tap the bracket on the side of the belt is running off.
After moving the bracket slightly forward, in the direction of the belt travel to
reposition the roll, retighten the bolts. Repeat this procedure at each point where the belt
runs off until the return side is running true.
Then start on the carrying side, at the tail end, working in the direction of belt
travel using the same method as for the return side.
It may be necessary to repeat these adjustments more than once until the belt
runs true.
Belt can be “steered” to improve training by slight shifting of idlers relative to line
of belt travel. Tilting of idlers is another technique for improving training of conveyor belt. A tilt
of 2° is the maximum that should be used to keep excessive wear on the rolls to a minimum.
This can be done by placing washers under rear feet of the mounting pads.
d) BELT SLIPPAGE:
Once the belt has been properly trained while running empty, the belt must be
checked when carrying a full load. Ideally, a properly trained belt will run true under loaded
conditions. In most cases off center running of the belt, when loaded, is caused by off-
centered loading. Chutes should distribute the load evenly and centered on to the belt.
If the belt slip to any direction at loaded position, it must be adjusted firstly by tail
drum and then by top idlers. Top idlers are adjusted as follows:
The slipping side of the belt is moved to forward and the other side to backward
direction when observed to the moving direction of the belt. Supports of the top idlers are
overly drilled. Required side of the support can be moved to forward and the other side to
backward by loosening the connection bolts must be tightened after that operation. This
adjustment is valid also for bottom idlers.
If the belt is slipping to any direction even if all these adjustments balance
condition of the belt should be controlled with a water level.

Loading:
Start with a light load and gradually work up the load that the conveyor was
designed to handle. Check chutes to see that the material is being directed onto the center of
the belt. The loading point of a belt conveyor is the critical point. Here the conveyor receives
its major abrasion and practically all of its impact. The ideal condition is to have the material
pass from chute to belt at the same speed and direction of travel as the belt, with a minimum
amount of impact, and to load the belt on center.
The skirts must be adjusted to prevent side spillage of material and to keep the
load central on the belt. The skirt lengths were designed to stop side spillage. The material
should also be at rest on the belt before it reaches the end of the skirt. If material is still
tumbling as it passes the skirt end, the skirts should be lengthened.

Bearings of HEAD and TAIL drums are dismounted and cleaned by gasoline then
gressed.
Discharge the oil of the reducer box. Clean all gears by gasoline. Then oil SAE 30
should be supplied.
Firstly belt is laid on the floor. Such that upper and lower parts are placed side by
side. The chassis, mounted at another place, except front part placed on to the lower part of
belt. Then front part of the chassis placed and tensioning process are verified. Finally all the
supports are placed and bolted. Dismounting is in reverse order.

1.Belt bowed: Avoid telescoping belt rolls or storing them in damp locations. A
new belt should straighten out when "broken in" or it must _ replaced.
4.Belt strained on one side - Allow time for new belt to "break in." If belt does
not break in properly or is not new, remove strained section and splice in a new piece.
5.Breaker strip missing or inadequate- When service is lost, install belt with
proper breaker strip.
9.Edge worn or broken - Repair belt edge. Remove badly worn or out-of-square
section and splice in a new piece.
