ACCESS DIAGNOSTIC & CONFIGURATION MODE
ACCESS DIAGNOSTIC MODE
1. Press the STBY/ON button on the Display.
2. Touch “UTILITIES” on the screen
Note: The next step requires pressing the hidden keypads in the upper right and left
corners of the displays touch screen.
3. Touch Top-Right Corner, Top-Left Corner, Top-Right Corner successively, to
access the “SYSTEM MAINTENANCE” menu on the display.

TOUCH SCREEN CALIBRATION
NOTE: If the Touch screen is locked proceed to step A.
1. Press the ON/STBY on the Display.
2. Touch “UTILITIES” on the screen.
3. Note: The next step requires pressing the hidden keypads in the upper right and left corners
of the displays touch screen. Since you can’t see the buttons it may take a few attempts to
access this mode.
If the Display does not allow you to access the System maintenance mode, the
calibration may be so far out that the screen will need to be reset. Turn the
Display off, Hold the STOP key, and turn the Display back on again. The display
will say “Reset to factory Defaults”. Press the START button to reset the factor
defaults, and proceed to step 8
4. Touch Top-Right Corner, Top-Left Corner, Top-Right Corner successively, to access the
“SYSTEM MAINTENANCE” menu on the display.
5. Touch “SYSTEM MAINTENANCE” on the screen.
6. Touch “DIAGNOSTICS” on the screen.
7. Touch “TOUCH SCREEN CALIBRATION” on the screen.
8. Use a Stylus pen only and touch each box that appears on the screen.
When the calibration is complete, the XY results will appear on the screen.
9. Touch “OK” on the screen to save the new settings.
10. Touch “BACK” on the screen twice to exit to the main screen.
Alternative Touch screen Calibration.
Follow this procedure when the screen is locked.
A. Turn off the Display
B. Hold the STOP and START keys together, and press the STB/ON button, and
continue to hold the START and STOP keys. This will take you to the touch screen
calibration. For systems with firmware below version 1.07, the screen will say, “Set
to factory defaults”. Press START to set to the factory defaults. NOTE: The
firmware on this Display should be updated to the latest version.
C. Use a Stylus pen only, and touch each box that appears on the screen.
When the calibration is complete, the XY results will appear on the screen.
D. Touch “OK” on the screen to save the new settings.
E. Touch “BACK” on the screen to save exit to the main screen.
F. If the Firmware is below version 1.07, YOU MUST do the Actuator calibration and
a Tilt Calibration procedures in that order. To check the version of firmware, touch
UTILITIES and check the version.

DISPLAY REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE.
Please refer to pictures below for reference.
Remove Display.
1. Unplug the Balance System from the AC wall outlet.
2. Disconnect the Printer USB cable from the back of the Display.
3. Remove the four screws from the back of the Display.
4. Carefully remove the Display from the mounting plate.
5. Remove the cables located at P2, J7, &J11.
-P2 will pull straight off the board
-To release the J7 connector from the board, press on the small center tab and pull
at the same time.
-To release the J11 connector, lift the two plastic clips on each end of the
connector then pull the cable out of the connector.
Install the Display
6. Connect P2, J7, & J11 cables to the Display board
7. Carefully place the Display on the mounting plate, making sure not to pinch any wires between
them.
8. Install the four Display screws.
9. Install Printer USB cable.

PLATFORM REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Please refer to the picture below for reference.
1. Access the Diagnostic mode, (see procedure).
2. Touch “Platform Actuator”.
3. Caution! Platform will release during this step. Touch the down arrow until the motor stalls.
4. Remove the screws from the Platform Housing and remove the Platform Housing.
5. Remove the Strain Gauge Cable connector from the Power supply board.
6. Follow that cable to the strain relief and remove the strain relief that holds the coiled portion of the
cable to the frame.
7. Remove the four Allen screws and SPACERS from the center of the platform.
Caution! Platform is very heavy. Lift the Platform off the U-Joint.

10. Remove the two nuts that hold the Gauge
on the platform. Take note of how the
cable is routed before removing the gauge.
11. Place two Flathead screw drivers under
each end of the Strain gauge, and gently
pry the gauge up by alternating back and
forth with each screw driver.

12. Install the new gauge.
13. Connect Strain Gauge Cable to
the strain gauge board. Make
sure that the cables are bent up
and do not touch the platform.
14. Install Platform and perform the Strain Gauge Calibration Procedure.

15. Install the platform on the Balance SD and follow the Strain Gauge Calibration
procedure to calibrate the board.

STIFFNESS POT INSTALLATION AND
CALIBRATION
Please refer to the picture below for reference.
1. Access Diagnostic mode, (see procedure).
2. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR” on the screen.
3. Press the down arrow until the motor stalls.
4. Remove Platform, (see procedure).
Removing Stiffness POT
5. Loosen the Spur Gear set screw using a 1/16” Allen wrench, and remove the Spur Gear.
6. Use a ½” open-end wrench to remove the hex bolt in the POT mounting bracket.
Install new POT
7. Mount new POT on the mounting bracket and install Spur Gear.
8. Slowly rotate the Pot Spur Gear fully clockwise until it stops, then back off two complete
turns. NOTE: For Balance SD above SN 0803814, turn the gear fully clockwise and back
off only 1 ½ turns.
9. Slide the POT assembly to engage the motor gear with the POT gear. Allow for some
Gear Backlash, or (play), between the gears to compensate for gear eccentricity.
POT Calibration
10. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the screen to adjust the distance between the top of the
BCM base to the top of the U-joint mounting plate, for a distance of 3 1/16”, or 7.2cm.
11. Touch “SET NEW MIN” on the screen to calibrate level 1.
12. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the screen to adjust the distance between the top of the
BCM base to the top of the U-joint Mounting plate, for a distance of 1 3/16’, or 3.0 cm.
13. Touch “SET NEW MAX” on the screen to calibrate level 12.
14. Install the platform
15. Touch and hold the UP arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
16. Touch “SET NEW LOCKED” on the screen to calibrate the locked position.
17. YOU MUST Touch “BACK” on the screen four times to exit and return to the main
screen.

QUICK ACTUATOR CALIBRATION
1. Remove the Plastic Cover surrounding the platform of the Balance SD. Do not
remove the Platform.
2. Access Diagnostic mode, (see procedure).
3. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR” on the screen.
4. Press the down arrow until the motor stalls.
5. Press the up arrow just until the BCM plate is just off the bottom, then Touch
“SET NEW MIN” on the screen.
6. Touch the UP arrow until the Platform is locked and the motor stalls. Touch the
“SET NEW LOCKED” button.
7. Touch the down arrow and adjust the BCM plate until the Cam is down and the
Bolt is just missing the CAM. (See Picture).
8. Then Touch the “SET NEW MAX” on the screen.
9. Touch the Compensation button.
10. You MUST touch the BACK key 4 times in order to save the information.

TILT SENSOR CALIBRATION
PROCEDURE
1. Install the platform if it’s not already installed.
2. Press the STBY/ON button on the Display.
3. Touch “UTILITIES” on the screen.
Note: The next step requires pressing the hidden keypads in the upper right
and left corners of the displays touch screen.
4. Touch Top-Right Corner, Top-Left Corner, Top-Right Corner
successively, to access the “SYSTEM MAINTENANCE” menu on
the display.
5. Touch “SYSTEM MAINTENANCE”.
6. Touch “DIAGNOSTICS”
Caution! The platform will release when you perform the next step.
7. Touch “TILT SENSOR” to release the platform.
8. Depress the platform to the maximum 9 o’clock position. The
“LEFT(min)” window will turn green signifying proper calibration.
9. Depress the platform to the maximum 3 o’clock position. The
“RIGHT(max)” window will turn green signifying proper calibration.
10. Depress the Platform to the maximum 6 o’clock position. The
“BACKWARD(min)” window will turn green signifying proper
calibration.
11. Depress the platform to the Maximum 12 o’clock position. The
“FORWARD(max)” window will turn green signifying proper
calibration.
12. YOU MUST press the BACK key 4 times to save and exit the
calibration screen.
Note: Refer to the Tilt Sensor Replacement Procedure if you are unable to
calibrate.

STRAIN GAUGE CALIBRATION PROCEDURE
Note: Make sure nothing is on or touching the Platform during the entire calibration
procedure.
1. Remove the Stability housing the surrounds the platform and locate the two bolts
mounted to the bottom of the tray. These bolts will be used to calibrate the Strain
Gauges in the platform.
2. Install the platform if it’s not already installed.
3. Press the STBY/ON button on the Display.
4. Touch “UTILITIES” on the screen.
Note: The next step requires pressing the hidden keypads in the upper right
and left corners of the displays touch screen.
5. Touch Top-Right Corner, Top-Left Corner, Top-Right Corner successively, to
access the “SYSTEM MAINTENANCE” menu on the display.
6. Touch “SYSTEM MAINTENANCE”.
7. Touch “DIAGNOSTICS”
8. Touch “STRAIN GAUGES”
Zeroing out the Strain Gauges Please refer to the picture on page 21 for reference.
CAUTION: Do not use excessive force to tighten this calibration screw or it will
damage the bearings in the platform. Screw should only be hand tight.
9. Install the larger of the two calibration bolts (3/8-16), in the center screw hole of
the platform. Turn the bolt until the platform lifts off of all four gauges. You can
feel the platform is able to tip in all directions. It should not be touching any
gauges. You will hear a clicking sound if you come in contact with the gauge.
10. Touch “OFFSET” on the screen. The gauges will now start the auto zero process
starting with the 9 o’clock window and continuing in the clockwise direction.
When complete the Offset window will turn green and the four gauges will read
around zero.
11. Remove the 3/8-16 unloading screw from the center of the platform.
Mechanical Strain Gauge Adjustment
12. Touch the “AGC” to turn it off, touch the “down” arrow and manually set the
counts to 100.
13. Adjust the screw located at the 12 o’clock position in the platform so that all four
gauge counts on the screen are as equal as possible. Counts should be within 25 of
each other.
Load Calibration
14. Install the small ¼-20 Flathead screw in the same center screw hole of the
platform. This bolt will press down on the platform simulating weight.
Tighten the bolt until you read a count of 2200 in the “SUM” window located in
the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
15. Touch “GAIN” and the Strain Gauges will calibrate starting with the 9 o’clock
position and continuing in the clockwise direction until all Gauges are complete.
When the calibration is complete the GAIN window will turn green and the
counts will be Between 500 and 550.
16. Remove the ¼-20 Flathead bolt from the center of the Platform.

17. Make sure that nothing is on or touching the platform during this test.
18. Press “PLATFORM”. The counts in the 12 o’clock window will continue to rise
and the Platform window will turn green when the calibration is complete.
Testing the gauges.
19. Touch “BACK” 4 times.
20. Touch “TRAINING”.
21. Touch “POSTURAL STABILITY”
22. Select your height and touch “NEXT”
23. Press “START” and verify a smooth cursor movement with respect to weight
placement on the platform. The Cursor should travel to the ends of the target
displayed.

Both Calibration Bolts will screw into the center of the platform. The first will use the
outside threads and push down on the inside plate lifting the platform off of the Gauges.
The Second Bolt will be small and screw into the inside thread of the center hole causing
the platform to press down on the four Strain Gauges.

TILT SENSOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
Please refer to pictures for reference.
1. Access Diagnostic Mode, (see procedure)
2. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR” on the screen.
3. Touch the down arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
4. Remove Platform, (see procedure).
5. Remove the four flat head Allen screws located on the top of the U-joint.
6. Lift the Tilt sensor plate off the U-joint. The Tilt sensor board will be mounted underneath the
plate.
7. Touch the up arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
8. Follow the Tilt sensor board cable to its strain relief and remove the cables strain relief.
9. Disconnect the Tilt sensor board cable from the Power Supply Board and remove the Tilt sensor
from the U-joint.
10. Mount the Tilt sensor Board as per Figure 1. ** It is very important that the
Tilt Sensor board is mounted in the proper direction or the board will not calibrate and may not
even function.**
11. Install the Tilt Sensor Board cable strain relief.
12. Install the four allen screws that mount the U-joint plate to the U-joint
13. Touch the Down arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
14. Install the Platform
15. Install Housing cover.
16. Follow the Tilt Sensor Calibration procedure to calibrate the new board.

CAM ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
Please refer to pictures for reference.
1. Access Diagnostic Mode, (see procedure).
2. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR” on the screen.
3. Remove the Platform, (see procedure).
4. Use the Up and Down arrows on the screen to adjust a distance of .5” or 13mm, between
the top of the U-joint Mounting plate and the Top of the BCM Base as shown in the
picture below. Measure the distance between the plates at the 12, 3,6, & 9 o’clock
positions of the U-joint mounting plate. If all for measurements are good, continue to step
5. If the plates are uneven, refer to Chain install and alignment procedure for accurate
adjustment between the two plates.
5. Turn the Cam Adjustment Bolt on each Cam for a distance of 3 7/16”, or 8.73 cm,
between the top of the Cam and the top of the BCM base as shown in the picture below.
6. Touch the Down arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
7. Install the platform.
8. Touch the up arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
9. Touch “SET NEW LOCKED” on the screen to calibrate the locked position.
10. Touch “BACK” four times to return to the main screen.

CHAIN REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE.
Please refer to the pictures below for reference.
1. At this Point we will proceed with this procedure as if the chain is broken and the platform cannot
be adjusted with the Display controls.
2. Remove the Platform housing.
3. Locate the coiled portion of the Strain Gauge cable and remove the strain relief.
4. Unplug the Strain Gauge cable from the Power Supply Board.
5. Remove the four Allen screws located in the center of the Platform & remove the Platform.
Caution: The platform is very heavy.
6. Loosen the Stiffness pot bolt and slid the Pot away from the motor drive gear.
7. Turn the stiffness pot full clockwise until it stops. If it does not stop, the pot is broken and needs to
be replaced. Leave the pot disconnected from the motor gear until the end of this procedure.
8. Loosen the Chain Idler sprocket and remove the chain if it is not already off.

9. Turn each sprocket with you hand and make sure each Sprocket turns freely with no binding.
10. Measure locations 1, 2, & 3, on the diagram for equal distance between the two plates. If the
plates are uneven, turn each sprocket to adjust the distance, and at the same time they should still
move freely without binding.
Chain Install
11. Install the chain without compromising the position of each sprocket alignment.
12. Tighten the Idler sprocket so the tension is just tight, not to tight. Caution: Do not over-tighten the
Idler screw or you will crush the Flange bearing and the Idler will bind.
13. Access Diagnostic Mode on the screen (see procedure).
14. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR” on the screen.
15. Press the down arrow until the motor stops.
16. Follow Stiffness Pot procedure to calibrate stiffness Pot.

BCM REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
Please refer to the pictures on the next page for reference.
1. Press ON/STBY on the Display to on.
2. Touch “UTILITIES” on the screen.
3. Access Diagnostic Mode, (see procedure).
4. Touch “DIAGNOSTICS” on the screen.
Caution: Platform will release during this test.
5. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR” on the screen.
5. Touch the “DOWN” arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
6. Remove Platform, (see procedure).
7. Remove the 12 spring caps from the top of the spring assemble. They are pressed on and glued so
you will need to use a little force to pull them off.
8. Remove the C-clip from each spring assembly, and remove the springs.
9. Touch the “UP” arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
10. Unplug the Balance System and disconnect all cables going from the BCM to the Power Supply.
11. Remove the nuts holding the 3 ACME screw brackets to the bottom of the Balance Base.
12. Lift the entire BCM off the Spring Rods.
13. Install the new BCM Base on the spring rods.
14. Install all Cable connections from the BCM back to the Power Supply.
15. Plug the Balance; Turn it on, and access Diagnostic mode, (see procedure).
16. Touch “DIAGNOSTICS” on the screen.
17. Touch “PLATFORM ACTUATOR”
18. Touch the “DOWN” arrow on the screen until the Motor stalls.
19. Touch the “UP” arrow on the screen and allow the BCM base to lift about 3 inches off the bottom.
This will give you access to the ACME screw mounting brackets under the BCM.
20. Install and tighten the nuts that hold the ACME rod brackets to the bottom of the system.
21. Touch the “DOWN” arrow on the screen until the motor stalls.
22. Install the springs and C-clips.
23. Apply some RTV to the Spring Caps and install them on the spring assembly.
24. Install BCM cable strain relief.
25. Install Platform
26. Install Strain Gauge strain relief
Perform the following procedures.
- Stiffness POT Calibration
- Tilt Sensor Calibration
- Strain Gauge Calibration.
