Topic: Listening to the Voice Within

Subject: Values Education / Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao

Level: Junior or Senior High School
Time Allotment: 30–45 minutes

I. Key Concepts to Explain

1. What is the “Voice Within”?

 It is your conscience—the part of you that knows what is right or wrong.

 It’s not a literal voice, but an inner guide that helps you make good choices.
 Some people describe it as a “gut feeling,” “inner voice,” “moral compass,” or “voice of the
heart.”

Ask:

“Have you ever felt something was wrong, even before doing it? What do you think that was?”

2. Why Is It Important to Listen to It?

 It helps you avoid doing harm to others or to yourself.

 It helps you stay true to your values even when others pressure you.
 It helps you grow into a mature, responsible, and trustworthy person.

📌 Example:

You’re tempted to lie about not doing your homework. Something inside tells you, “That’s wrong.” That’s
your conscience speaking.

3. How Does It Work?

The voice within is shaped by:

 Upbringing (what your parents or guardians taught you)

 Religion or faith
 Personal experiences
 Reason and critical thinking
 Examples from others (role models, teachers, friends)

But remember: your conscience must be formed properly—it’s not just about feelings, it’s about learning
what is truly right and good.
4. What Happens When We Ignore It?

 We may feel guilty, anxious, or uncomfortable.

 We can hurt others or ourselves.
 Over time, if we keep ignoring it, we become less sensitive to what’s right.

Important:
Ignoring your conscience is like ignoring a smoke alarm—you might avoid the sound, but the danger is still
real.

5. Ways to Strengthen the Voice Within

 Reflect on your actions each day. (“Did I do the right thing today?”)
 Ask for advice from people you trust.
 Learn about values and moral principles.
 Read inspiring stories or books about good character.
 Spend quiet time to think and pray (if you're spiritual).

Class Activity Suggestion: "My Inner Voice Says..."

Have students respond to moral dilemmas like:

You saw your best friend cheating during a test. What does your inner voice say?

Let them reflect silently or share aloud.

Sample Reflection Prompt for Students:

"Describe a time when you listened to your inner voice, even though it was difficult. What happened?
What did you learn from it?"

Final Message to Students:

Listening to the voice within means respecting yourself enough to choose what is right, even when it’s
hard. It helps you grow into the kind of person you’re proud to be—honest, kind, and responsible.
