About the Author
Lesley Abravanel is a freelance journalist and a graduate of
the University of Miami School of Communication. When she
isn’t combing South Florida for the latest hotels, restaurants,
and attractions, she’s on the lookout for vacationing celebri-
ties, about whom she writes in her weekly nightlife and gossip
column, “Velvet Underground,” for both the Miami Herald and
its weekly entertainment newspaper, Street. She is a contribu-
tor to Star Magazine and the Miami correspondent for Black
Book Magazine and is the author of Frommer’s South Florida.
Author’s Acknowledgments
Thanks to my parents, Arnold and Francine — without them, I
am nothing; to Aunt Trish, who knows more about schlepping
through Florida than anyone else I know; to Mrs. Ritchie, for
teaching me to aspire to greatness; to the publicists out there
who understand the importance of getting back to me; and to
all those who appreciate the humor and irony of my involve-
ment in this very book.
