Experiment 3
LOGIC GATES

Aim : To study the operations of logic gates

Objects Required : 1. Transistor, 2. 1 A Diode, 3. Resistors (1 k, 10 k, 220 Ω), 4. LEDs.
Make the following exercises.
EXERCISE 1 - Build the circuit shown in the diagram.
- Connect A to logic 1, and measure the
base voltage. Note the logic state of A.
- Note the logic state of Y.
- Connect A to logic 0, and measure the
base voltage. Note the logic state of A.
- Note the logic state of Y.
- From your results, state the type of logic
gate, and construct the truth table and
write down a Boolean equation.

EXERCISE 2 - Build the circuit shown in the diagram.

- Connect A and B to logic 0, and measure the
output voltage.
- Connect A to logic 0, and B to logic 1, and
measure the output voltage.
- Connect A to logic 1, and B to logic 0, and
measure the output voltage.
- Connect A and B to logic 1, and measure the
output voltage.
- From your results, state the type of logic
gate, and construct the truth table and write
down a Boolean equation.
EXERCISE 3
- Build the circuit shown in the diagram.
- Connect A and B to logic 0, and measure
the output voltage.
- Next, measure the output voltage with A
connect to logic 1.
- Connect both A and B to logic 1, and
measure the output voltage.
- From your results, state the type of logic
gate, and construct the truth table and write
down a Boolean equation.

EXERCISE 4
- Build the circuit shown in the diagram.
- Connect A and B to logic 0, and measure
the output voltage.
- Connect A to logic 0, and B to logic 1,
and measure the output voltage.
- Connect A to logic 1, and B to logic 0,
and measure the output voltage.
- Connect A and B to logic 1, and measure
the output voltage.
- From your results, state the type of logic
gate, and construct the truth table and
write down a Boolean equation.

- Build the circuit shown in the diagram.

EXERCISE 5 - Connect A and B to logic 0, and measure
the output voltage.
