Excuse Letters: Easy Guide for Filipino Students

What's an Excuse Letter?

It's a formal note to your school (teacher, principal) explaining why you were absent or late.
Think of it as your official way to tell them, "Hey, I wasn't there because..."

Why Do We Need Them?

 Be Polite: Shows you respect your teachers and school rules.

 Official Record: Keeps track of why you missed school.
 No Worries: Prevents misunderstandings about your absence.
 Responsible: Shows you care about your studies and attendance.

Common Reasons for Absence (and when to write a letter)

Filipino students usually write excuse letters for:

 Sickness: Fever, flu, doctor's appointments.

o Need: Doctor's note.
 Family Issues: Death in the family, urgent family matters.
o Need: Parent's note, or a document if it's a death.
 School Events: Representing the school in competitions or activities.
o Need: Invitation, memo from school/coach.
 Important Personal Stuff: Religious events, government appointments.
o Need: Proof of appointment, parent's detailed note.
 Bad Weather/Disasters: Typhoons, floods stopping travel.
