A NEW VERSION OF

USOOL AL
THALATHA
For young scholars

Abdul Wahab
Aqeedah:
The Linguistic Meaning of Aqeedah:
The word Aqeedah is derived from the root word
'Aqada, which means to 'tie something (firmly),' and
"I'taqadtu such and such" meaning, "I tied my heart
and mind to it."

'Al-Aqeedah' is what a person believes as a religion. It

is said, "he has a good aqeedah" means "he's protected
from doubts."

Aqeedah is an action of the heart, i.e., to believe and

affirm something in the heart.

The Meaning of Aqeedah according

to the Shari`ah:
It is the belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His
Messengers, the Last Day and belief in al-Qadr
(Predestination) - its good and evil.
These are called the Pillars of Imaan (faith).

Tie a knot as tightly

as you can.

Now, try to remove the

knot. It is hard, right?

In the same way, we

must be strong in our
belief.

Three fundamental principles
Worshipping our Creator ALLAH is the reason
we were created on this Earth. When Allah has willed,
we will leave this world. Our souls will depart and we
will be placed in graves. When the Day of Resurrection
arrives, we will be raised from our graves and will be
held responsible for our deeds.
In order to live as a practising Muslim and die as a
Muslim, we must realize our purpose of life and live by
it.

Allah has tasked two angels, al-Munkar

and an-Nakeer, with asking three (3)
questions to all those who have died and
are in the grave.

Who is your
Lord? What is your
religion?
Who is your
Prophet?
First principle
Who is your Lord?

Our Lord is Allah, the One who created and

nurtured us and all of His creations by His Wisdom
and Mercy. The One who is in absolute control over
each and every affair. He is the only One who is
worthy of worship and there is nothing (or none) equal
to Him.

How did we come to know about Him?

Through His signs, especially His creations.

Amongst His signs are the night and the day, and
the sun and the moon; and among His creations are
the seven (levels of) heaven and the seven (levels of)
earth, as well as whoever (and whatever) lies in
them and between them. A goat and a silkworm
may eat the same mulberry leaf but the products
we get from both the creatures are totally different.
Who could have created all these creations with so
much diversity and wisdom? It is Allah, the only
true God.

Qur'an, 4: 36
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to
parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy,
the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the
companion at your side, the traveller, and those whom
your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like
those who are self-deluding and boastful.

None is worthy of worship

except Allah.

Importance of knowing
Aqeedah
Allah – the Most High – said, whilst
addressing His Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬:

“So have knowledge about La ilaha illAllah

(i.e, have knowledge that none has the right to
be worshipped except Allah), and seek
forgiveness for your sins, and for the believing
men and women.”
(Surah Muhammad 47: 19)

Aqeedah (creed and belief) is the foundation of

the religion. It is only with correct belief that
all of our deeds will get accepted by Allah.

What is shirk and
kufr?
Shirk is to devote any act of worship to anything
or anyone besides Allah.

Examples:
Seeking help from the dead, the jinn, idols, the
stars, and so on. Offering sacrifices or making
vows to them.

Kufr is the denial and concealment of the Truth.

Examples:
Denying the obligation of Salah, Zakah, Sawm
etc.

Pillars of Islam
14
Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“The Creator of these things is the One who
deserves to be worshipped.”

Allah has commanded complete worship of Him

alone through the following means
Islam (submission and obedience to Allah)
Imaan (true belief comprising the speech of the
tongue and action of the limbs)
Ihsaan (perfection of worship)

How to worship Allah?
Invocation/supplication (du'a)

Reverential fear (khawf)

Hope and longing (rajaa')

believers."
(Surah Aal-Imran 3: 175)

17
The proof for Hope (Rajaa') is Allah's saying:

‫َف َم ن َك اَن َيْرُجو۟ا ِلَق ٓاَء َرِّبِهۦ َفْلَي ْع َم ْل َع َم اًۭل َص ٰـ ِلًۭح ا َو اَل ُيْش ِرْك ِبِع َباَدِة َرِّبِهٓۦ َأَحًۢد ا‬..

righteous deeds, and not mix anyone into the worship of his
Lord." (Surah Al-Kahf 18: 110)

The proof for Reliance (Tawakkul) is Allah's saying:

".. Verily, they used to rush to do good deeds, and they would
call on Us, longing (His reward) and dreading (His
punishment), and they used to humble themselves
submissively before Us." (Surah Al-Anbiya' 21: 90)
18
The proof for Awe (Khashyah) is Allah's saying:

"...so do not be in awe of them, but have awe of Me..."

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 150)

The proof for Repentance (Inaabah) is Allah's saying:

and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds."
"He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and
I am the first of the Muslims."
(Surah Al-An'am 6: 162-163)
20

‫ُيوُف وَن ِبٱلَّنْذ ِر َو َيَخاُف وَن َيْو ًۭم ا َك اَن َش ُّرُهۥ ُم ْس َت ِط يًرا‬

"They are those who fulfill their vows and fear a Day
whose evil will be widespread."
(Surah Al-Insan 76: 7)

The second principle

Al-Munkar and An-Nakeer will

ask,

“What is your religion?”

What does it mean to be a Muslim?

Submitting to Allah’s oneness (tawheed)

constantly aiming to please Allah
by being obedient to him
To beware of committing any major sins,
especially shirk, kufr.

22
Belief can be divided into three categories

Ihsaan

Imaan

Islam

1. Testimony of faith:
Declaring that there is no deity worthy of
worship except Allah and that muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬
is His last Prophet and Messenger.

Pillars 2. Establishing the prayer:

Praying the five daily obligatory prayers.

of 3.Giving Zakah:
Giving 2.5% of our wealth as charity, yearly.

Islam 4. Fasting:
In the month of Ramadan.

5. Performing Hajj:
At least once in a lifetime for those who are
capable (physically and financially).

Imaan
The second level is al-Imaan (true faith) and it has
seventy odd branches. The highest of them is the saying
of "la ilaha illAllah” and the lowest of them is removal
of that which is harmful from the path; and
al-hayaa' (a sense of shame) is a branch of Imaan.

Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or
the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah,
the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets.

Ihsaan
Ihsaan is that you worship Allah as though you
see Him, for even though you cannot see Him,
He still sees you.

Indeed, Allah is with those who have Taqwa and

those who have Ihsaan.
(Surah al-Nahl 16: 128)

30
Third principle
Who is
The question will be: your
prophet?

He is Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬, the son of ‘Abdullah, the son of ‘Abdul-

Muttalib Ibn Hashim. Hashim was from the (the tribe of) Quraysh
and Quraysh was from the Arabs. And the Arabs are from the
offspring of (Prophet) Ismail, son of (Prophet) Ibrahim.

Write the names in the given circles

Great-grandfather grandfather Father

31
He (‫ )ﷺ‬lived for sixty-three years, forty of
which was prior to his prophethood and
twenty three of which he spent as a prophet
and messenger.
Mention the incidents that happened corresponding to the given ages.

Allah, the Mighty and Majestic,

sent to us, the people of this Ummah,
the Messenger Muhammad (‫)ﷺ‬
relating the signs and ayaat of our Lord
to us, purifying us, and teaching us the
Prophet
Book and the Wisdom. This is just as He
had sent messengers to those before us.
to guide
Allah, the Blessed and the Most High, us
says:

"There was not a previous nation except

that Allah sent a warner to them."
(Surah Fatir 35: 24)
32
It is not possible for us to worship Allah in the
manner He is pleased with except by
means of the Messengers, since they are the
ones who explained to us what Allah
loves and is pleased with, and whatever will
draw us closer to Him, the Mighty and
Majestic. Therefore it was from Allah's
Wisdom that He sent the messengers to the
creation as bearers of good tidings and
warners.

Write down the duties of a messenger

33
Make a chart similar to this. Then number
each prophet to play a game. 34
Prophets hunt

Let "Player A" ask "Player B" begin counting

silently. Player B must stop when Player A
indicates, landing at a number. Player A must
then talk about the Prophet whose name
corresponds to that number in the chart.

Example: If Player B stopped at 5, Player A needs

to talk about Prophet Hud (peace be upon him).
