Students encounter simulated common software issues on a shipboard computer
Scenario Description (e.g., system update error, port connection failure, driver compatibility issues, and
antivirus malfunction) and apply troubleshooting techniques.

Exercise
1. Diagnose each software issue using the manufacturer’s manual as a guide.
Tasks 2. Apply troubleshooting steps to resolve the issues based on standard
procedures.
3. Document the diagnosis and resolution process for each issue.
The instructor shall ensure that the following information are conveyed to the
students during briefing/debriefing:
1. House rules.
2. Conduct Familiarization of equipment which includes:
a. Description and configuration of the simulator/laboratory equipment.
b. Operation of the simulator/laboratory equipment.
Instructor’s Action 3. Different scenarios related to the course.
4. Attend to questions inherent to the familiarization of the system.
5. Debrief the student after the Exercise focus on the following, what did the student
6. Learned, what mistakes were made if any, and how to improve performance
7. Demonstrate how to perform the Exercise meeting the requirements.

2. Discuss the learning outcome of the Exercise.
3. Explain the Exercise scenario.
4. Discuss the required performance criteria and performance standards in
accomplishing the tasks.
5. Explain the initial condition if any.
6. Discuss the duration of the Exercise.

7. Assign student’s roles in the Exercise.
8. Explain the conditions when the Exercise will be stopped.
9. Inform the students that they will be monitored throughout their execution and
that a debriefing will be held after the Exercise.
10.Ask the trainees to raise any questions or clarification before proceeding to the
Exercise proper.
Perform the learning outcome of the Exercise in a safe manner following
Student’s Action procedures as stated in the tasks.
1. When objectives have been accomplished.

b. Deviation from the objective

4. The Exercise will be automatically stopped when Exercise exceeds the time limit.
1. Explain the purpose of debriefing.
2. Point out the strengths of the students’ performance by citing the performance
criteria and the performance standards that they were able to accomplish.
3. Discuss the weaknesses of the trainees’ performance by citing the executions
Debriefing which didn’t meet the performance standard. Replay the Exercise if available.
4. Ask for comments from the students and whether they agree with the observations
5. Give recommendations how to improve the performance in the next run of the
Exercise.
6. Ask for any suggestions to improve the Exercise.
