2. REASON

To inform operators of MPC configurations and DMU software upload.

3. MPC GENERALITIES

There are two kinds of MPC:

- The ED35 available on all ATR not equipped with NAS (New Avionics Suite) (not equipped
with modification No. 05948).

- The ED36 available on aircraft model ATR72-212A equipped with NAS (modification
No. 05948).

A. The Multi Purpose Computer (MPC) ED35 is an equipment composed of two different
parts, AFDAU & DMU parts, which are identified by two different P/N’s:

- AFDAU part: P/N ED35E109-01-02, or P/N ED35E109-01-03, or

P/N ED35E109-01-04, or P/N ED35E109-01-05, or P/N ED35E109-01-20 including:

. The “mechanical box”,

. The complete hardware for both AFDAU & DMU Parts,

. The AFDAU Part software.

- DMU part (DMU operational software kit): P/N 360-04309-001, or P/N 252692803-0101,
or P/N 252692803-0102 Amdt A, or P/N 252692803-0102 Amdt B, or
P/N 252692811-0104 including:

. DMU system software,

. DMU set-up database.

Each part performs different functions:

- AFDAU (Auxiliary Flight Data Acquisition Unit) Part:

. FDAU (Flight Data Acquisition Unit) for SSFDR purpose

. APM (Aircraft Performance Monitoring)

. EHS (Enhanced Surveillance)

. Data broadcast to ATC Transponder for ADS-B capability (Automatic Dependent

Surveillance-Broadcast)

NOTE: EHS is for European regulation.

- DMU (Data Management Unit) Part, for ACMS (Aircraft Condition Monitoring System)
which includes different functions following software version uploaded in computer.

AFDAU software is uploaded in computer only by SAGEM in its facilities.

MPC is always delivered with this software loaded.

DMU software is uploaded in computer at aircraft delivery, but can be upgraded by

operator when new version available.

(1) MPC configurations:

P/N ED35E109-01-02 is the MPC basic configuration developed and certified for
aircraft model ATR72 (-500 family).

P/N ED35E109-01-03 is an evolution of “-01-02” to allow installation of MPC on all

ATR models (not only -500 family).

P/N ED35E109-01-04 is an improvement of previous versions regarding APM & EHS

functions:

 Enhanced Surveillance function improvement (selected altitude acquisition from

textual data destined to ADU instead of floating point value from AP),

 APM function improvement (addition of memory data reset when monitoring

conditions are no more verified, modification of cruise phase definition).

P/N ED35E109-01-05 is an improvement of previous versions regarding APM:

correction of APM fault on Ground (Ground Phase = “Landing gear down and Flap not
0° position”), see OIM 2009/004 issue 4.
This P/N is installed through the application of Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1075.

P/N ED35E109-01-20 implements provision for the Wireless Extension For ACMS
(WEFA) function, including:

- PCMCIA slot upgrade to allow replacement of the PCMCIA by a Smart PCMCIA

Card (SPC).

- Provisions for WEFA interlock function to avoid unwanted emission in flight or when
engines are ON.

This P/N also corrects a minor AMP CzCx computation error on ATR42-500 table to
avoid spurious "DEGRADED PERF" messages.
This P/N is installed through the application of Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1102.

(2) DMU configurations:

DMU operational software kit versions available in fields are:

- P/N 360-04309-001 comprising DMU system software P/N 360-03976-104 and DMU
set-up database P/N L0380402-07 and allowing following functions:

. QAR/DAR (Quick Access Recorder/ Digital ACMS Recorder)

. Bite for AFCS, Radio Com-Nav, TCAS, PEC/EEC, MFC

. Possibility for FDEP (Flight Data Entry Panel) removal

For aircraft with DMU software version “P/N 360-04309-001” installed, an upgrade of
DMU software can be done in order to take benefits of new functions available in
newer DMU version. As “P/N 252692803-0101” is no more available,
“P/N252692803-0102” can be proposed.
This upgrade can be done by the following Service Bulletins embodiment

- Aircraft modification No. 05680 “wiring provision”:

. Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1058

- Aircraft modification No. 05629 “DMU Software installation”:

. Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1056

- Aircraft modification No. 05911 “DMU Software installation”:

. Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1064

NOTE 1: Acars data transmission can be done only IF Acars on board and IF the
Service Bulletin No. ATR72-23-1060 is embodied on aircraft.

NOTE 2: Several functions needs specific tools to be activated or to operate.

- QAR need the reading tool AGS (Aircraft Ground Station)

- DAR, SAR needs the reading tool GSE (Ground Support Equipment)
SAR function is available following parameters setting by GSE.

NOTE 3: In case of MPC failure, repaired unit will be shipped back with the latest
DMU software version. All new functions will be already available except
part of functions of DMU P/N 252692803-0101 that need wiring modification
embodiment as per Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1058.

NOTE 4: WEFA function is installed by Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1102.

(3) DMU interchangeability reminder:

The DMU software version P/N 252692803-0102 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N 252692803-0101 and P/N 360-04309-001.
Also, P/N 252692803-0101 is interchangeable ONE WAY with P/N 360-04309-001.

The DMU software version P/N 252692811-0104 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N 252692803-0102, P/N 252692803-0101 and P/N 360-04309-001.

(4) DMU software upload:

Upload of DMU software can be easily done by operator using appropriate “DMU kit”.

The upload procedure is described in MP ATR-A-45-31-XX-03ZZZ-752Z-A - Loading

of the Data Management Unit (DMU) Software.

DMU software upload is necessary in following cases:

- After installation on aircraft of a MPC spare unit.

In this case, software upload shall be performed using DMU kit provided to the
operator by ATR at aircraft delivery.
or
- When a new DMU software version (new P/N), with new functions, is available.
In this case, software upload shall be performed using DMU kit ordered by operator
to ATR.

B. The Multi-Purpose Computer (MPC) ED36 is an equipment composed of four different

parts, MPC HW, FDAU, DMU parts and PCMCIA card, which are identified by four
different P/N’s:

- MPC HW: P/N 261065723-1000 or P/N 261065723-3000 including:

. The “mechanical box”,

. The complete hardware for both FDAU & DMU Parts,

NOTE: MPC HW P/N 261065723-3000 also includes PCMCIA slot upgrade for Smart
PCMCIA Card (SPC).

"-1000" to implement provision for Wireless Extension For ACMS (WEFA)
function, including:

- PCMCIA slot upgrade to allow replacement of the PCMCIA by a Smart PCMCIA

card (SPC).

- Provision for WEFA interlock function to avoid unwanted emission in flight or

when engines are ON.

This P/N is installed by modification No. 07352 or Service Bulletin

No. ATR72-31-1099 (entitled: "Indicating/Recording systems - New Avionics Suite -

• Improve Report 26: Propeller Balancing, automatic report generation at

landing when no icing conditions are detected.

NOTE 1: Interface improvement for VMS (aircraft with modification No. 07736
or Service Bulletin No. ATR72-61-1031) will be operative when
modification No. 10242 or Service Bulletin No. ATR72-61-1040
entitled: “Propellers - New Avionics Suite - Replacement of VMCU
P/N 271-139-001-011 or 271-139-002-012 by P/N 271-139-003-012"
will be embodied.

o Update QAR/DAR automatic start/stop logic for WEFA transmission

improvement. QAR/DAR will stop and restart when aircraft enter in Hotel mode.

no more computed and displayed as their associated maintenance alerts in the

• Update Flight CMC report - R22/R24

• Update VMS Report#26 (see above)

• New Engine Take-Off configuration report - R05 (T/O configuration counters

for each engine (ENG1 and ENG2) associated to an Engine serial number)

• New Last Leg Report - R27 contains AVS LAT LEG REPORT page with all
AVS failure message during the last leg.

o Menu A/C PARAM INIT: Remove ESN initialization page: no need to initialize
Engine Serial Number (ESN source from EEC for all ACMS report).

o Installed by modification No. 07975 or Service Bulletin:

NOTE 1: After embodiment of modification No. 07975 or associated Service

Bulletins, DMU and FDAU software post MOD are not
interchangeable with previous FDAU and DMU software, the
interchangeability code is 300. Due to Aircraft Flight Manual update in
the frame of APM V2.0 upgrade (see § 3.B.(4)).

(3) DMU interchangeability reminder:

The DMU software version P/N L04451-1003 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N L04451-1002.

The DMU software version P/N L04451-1004 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N L04451-1003.

The DMU software version P/N L04451-1005 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N L04451-1004.

The DMU software version P/N L04451-1006 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N L04451-1005.

The DMU software version P/N L04451-1007 is not interchangeable with previous
P/N L04451-1006, it requires simultaneous embodiment of FDAU P/N L04450-1003.
The interchangeability code is 300.

(4) FDAU configurations:

 P/N L04450-1000 is the FDAU basic configuration (with the basic FDR frame).

 P/N L04450-1001 that allows following functions:

o Same functions as P/N L04450-1000

o Adjustment of IAS threshold for APM Algorithm improvement.

o Update FDR frame for acquisition of new NAS STD2 parameters linked to
RNP-AR, LPV, VNAV, ADS-B out functions.

o Update FDR frame to increase the recording rate of the Vertical Acceleration
parameter.

o Installed by modification No. 07205 or Service Bulletin No. ATR72-31-1093

(5) FDAU interchangeability reminder:

The FDAU software version P/N L04450-1001 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N L04450-1000.

The FDAU software version P/N L04450-1002 is interchangeable ONE WAY with
previous P/N L04450-1001.

The FDAU software version P/N L04450-1003 is not interchangeable with previous
P/N L04450-1002. Embodiment on the aircraft requires AFM (Aircraft Flight Manual)
update for APMV2.0 algorithm. The interchangeability code is 300.

The FDAU software P/N L04450-1004 is not interchangeable with previous

P/N L04450-1003. Due to update of DFDR/QAR decoding law and Maintenance
procedure on Mandatory parameter. The interchangeability code is 300.

(6) FDAU and DMU software upload:

Due to interchangeability code 300 after embodiment of latest FDAU software

modification (modification No. 07975 and/or No. 10470 or associated Service
Bulletins), MPC ED36 new spare units or units returned from repair shops may
require to be uploaded in accordance with Aircraft MIPD FDAU/DMU software
configuration.
