University Institute of Legal Studies, Chandigarh University, is among

Clinical Legal Education through the art of legal research, drafting,

About Moot Court Society
The moot courtsocietyof University Institute of Legal Studies at
Chandigarh University seeks to serve as a bridge between legal knowledge
and practical understanding of law by enabling the students to recognise
their potential and master their oral advocacy skills. The society helps the
students in gaining insight into the courtroom procedure and enhancing
their legal research. Whether students face challenges related to academic
polices, personal disputes or broader societal issues the moot court society
of UILS addresses their concerns by providing significant guidance and
assistance to the students.
ABOUT 1ST Vox Populi Intra Moot Marathon
The Event of ADVANCED VOX POPULI 2.0 INTRA MOOT MARATHON
in continuation of the previous event- VOX POPULI INTRA MOOT
MARATHON which was held on 17th-20th March 2025. The event emerged as
a resounding success targeting 900+ students and registered 230 teams out of
which 173 teams appeared for the competition and participated with full
enthusiasm standing out as a beacon of practical legal learning and testimony to
the institution’s commitment to academic excellence. The marathon brought
together students from various semesters and academic backgrounds, fostering a
competitive yet educational environment to stimulate real world legal
proceedings.
About Advanced Vox Populi 2.0 Intra Moot Marathon
2025
The Latin term "VOX POPULI" refers to the voice of people, opinion or
sentiment of the majority of people. The Intra Moot Marathon is prestigious
event hosted by the Moot Court Society of UILS at Chandigarh University,
bringing together law students to showcase their legal knowledge and advocacy
skills. Participants will engage in challenging rounds on legal issues, judged by
distinguished legal professionals. The competition will foster professional
growth, legal research and understanding of law. The competition will be held in
4 different Groups inclusive of all UG programs both 5 year and 3 years.
Group-B: (inclusive of - 2nd year BA LLB, 2nd year BCom LLB and 2nd year
BBA LLB, LLB) Group-C: (inclusive of - 3rd year BA LLB, 3rd year BCom
LLB, 3rd year BBA ) Group-D: (inclusive of - 4th year BA LLB, 4th year BCom
LLB and 4th year BBA LLB) Group-E: (inclusive of - 5th year BA LLB, 5th
year BCom LLB, 5th year BBA LLB and 3rd year LLB teams) For each Group,
there will be a separate moot proposition based on their legal knowledge and
understanding along with separate awards for each level, and the same structure
would be followed by all the teams throughout the competition.

NOTE-IT IS COMPULSORY FOR 2 AND 3 YEAR TO
PARTICIPATE .
1. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS:
LANGUAGE:
The official language for the Intra-department Moot Court Competition
shall be English only.
INTERPRETATION CLAUSE:
The sole authority for interpretation of any rule is with the MCS if any
dispute arises.
TEAM COMPOSITION:
The team shall comprise of Three members only. Out of three members
two shall be the speaker and one shall be the researcher. The teams will
not be allowed to substitute any of its members after the registration
process has been completed, except with the permission of the
organizers in case of any contingency only. The teams are given the
leverage to select the members accordingly.
DRESS CODE:
All the teams participating in the competition must adhere to the following
dress code during the rounds-
•Male - White Shirt, black trousers, Black coat & Black tie.
•Female - White Kurta & Salwar or white shirt, black trousers along with a
black coat.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
All the law students of the University Institute of Legal Studies, Chandigarh
University, pursuing UG degree can participate in the competition.
MOOT PROPOSITIONS:
The participating teams can access the moot proposition specifically
assigned for their groups in the google drive link attached below and they
need to prepare their case based on the proposition assigned to their group
2. RULES REGARDING REGISTRATION AND MOOT
MEMORIAL
1. Teams must register by submitting the official registration form before
the deadline. The registration link will be live on 3rd August,2025. 2. Each
team has to prepare a written submission/memorial from both sides i.e.
from the side of petitioners/appellants/applicants/complainants and from
the side of defendants/respondents of the case. 3. Memorials shall be
identified by the team code assigned to the participating team; the
memorials shall not in any way whatsoever disclose any information
pertaining to the identity of the participating team. 4. The pages for moot
memorial shall not exceed 30 pages. 5. Petitioners/Applicants/Appellants are
required to have a BLUE coloured front page whereas
Defendants/Respondents are required to have RED coloured front page.
oParticipating teams are required to submit soft copies of memorial (from
both the sides) to Moot Court Society by sending soft copies in both doc.

7. Foot notes are mandatory for all students. Omission of foot notes will
attract penalty.
8. The Researcher’s Test will be conducted on – 19th August,2025.
9. In the event of an odd number of participating teams, a single team
will present an ex parte performance, meaning they will perform without
an opposing team and be assessed solely on the strength of their
arguments.

2.2COVER PAGE:
The Cover Page of a Memorial must containthefollowinginformation:
· The Team Code in the upper right-hand.
· The name and year of the Competition.
· The name of the case.
· The side for which the Memorial has beenprepared.
·Name of the forum resolving the dispute.
2.3 EVALUATION FOR ORAL PLEADINGS
EvaluationCriteria forOral PleadingSession. The Oral Pleading Sessions
will be marked on a scale of 100 marks per judge as per the following
criteria:
Marking Criteria
The decision of the Bench regarding the allocation of marks shall be final
and binding.
2.4 MEMORIAL SCORING CRITERIA (Out of 100 Marks
per Side):
2.5 GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEE
Any dispute related to the competition shall be dealt by the Grievance
Redressal Committee and shall be binding.
3. COMPETITION STRUCTURE:
1.Preliminary Rounds
1ST ROUND (CLASS ROOM ROUND)
1ST round shall start from the class itself i.e. if total 10 teams registered
within the class they have to compete within the class first and after
competing within the class one team will come out section wise (semester-
wise in each program) from each section:
·3rd Semester
· 1 TEAM FROM BBA LLB, SECTION-A
· 1 TEAM FROM BBA LLB, SECTION-B
· 1 TEAM FROM BBA LLB, SECTION-C
·Time Allocation: 15 minutes per team (both speakers must speak for a
minimum of 5 minutes) +3 minutes for rebuttal/sur-rebuttal, total time for
thisround being 30 minutes.
2.Quarter -finals:
·Format: Knockout round.
·Time Allocation: 15 minutes per team (both speakers must speak for a
minimum of 5 minutes) +3 minutes for rebuttal/sur-rebuttal, total time for
this round being 30 minutes.
·Scoring: Based only on oral pleadings (100 Marks).
·Criteria: Same as Preliminary Rounds
·Advancement: The winning team from each round advances to the Semi-
Finals.
3.Semi-Finals:
3RD ROUND (SEMI FINALS) PROGRAM WISE
After 1st and 2nd round out of many teams in each program (Program Wise)
we will receive four teams for the semifinal (in each semester that too
Program Wise)

After semifinal round we will receive 2 teams for final rounds.
·Format: Knockout round (4 teams).
·Time Allocation: 20 minutes per team (at least 12 minutes per speaker) + 6
minutes for rebuttal/sur-rebuttal.
·Scoring: Based only on oral pleadings (100 Marks).
·Criteria: Same as Quarter-Finals.
·Advancement: The winning teams proceed to the Final Round.
4.Final Round:

4Round(Finals for each SEMESTER) After receiving 2 teams for finals from
each semester we will receive semester wise WINNERS for Advanced Vox
Populi 2.0 Intra-Moot Marathon,2025. Example- 2nd Group winner 3rd
Group winner 4th Group winner 5th Group winner ·Format: Knockout
round (2 teams). ·Time Allocation: 20 minutes per team (both speakers must
speak for a minimum of 7 minutes) + 4 minutes for rebuttal/sur-rebuttal, total
time for this round being 40 minutes. ·Scoring: Based only on oral pleadings
(100 Marks). ·Criteria: Same as Semi-Finals.
4. Disqualifications & Penalties:
·Any team engaging in misconduct shall be disqualified.
·Late Memorial Submission Penalty: 2 marks per day deducted.
·A deduction of 2 marks will be imposed for every extra minute exceeding
the allotted time. Additionally, 2 marks will be deducted for every minutea
speaker falls short of the minimum speaking time specified above.
·Disclosure of team identity during oral rounds is prohibited.
