The Importance of Recycling

1 What is Recycling?
Recycling means taking things we don’t need anymore, like paper or plastic, and
turning them into new things. It’s like giving old stuff a new life! Recycling helps
keep our planet clean.

2 What Can We Recycle?

Here are some things you can recycle:

2.1 Paper
Old homework, newspapers, and cardboard boxes can be recycled into new pa-
per. This saves trees!

2.2 Plastic
Water bottles and yogurt containers can be recycled into new plastic things, like
toys or benches.

2.3 Glass
Glass jars and bottles can be melted and made into new jars. Glass can be recy-
cled forever!

2.4 Metal
Soda cans and tin cans can be recycled into new cans or even bikes!

3 Why Recycling Matters

Recycling helps save trees, water, and energy. It keeps trash out of landfills,
which are big piles of garbage. By recycling, you help animals, plants, and the
Earth stay healthy.

4 Fun Activity
Make a recycling chart! Draw three bins labeled “Paper,” “Plastic,” and “Glass/Metal.”
Cut out pictures from old magazines and glue them into the right bins. Show your
chart to your family to help them recycle!
