GUIDELINES TO PREPARE THE IPT REPORT
The PT report is divided into two main parts: the main report and the weekly report. The
main report is divided into three sections, and the weekly report into two sections as
follows:
The main report (Refer to sections 1.6.0 and 1.7.0 of the PT guidelines)
a. Introduction of the company
b. Description of activities
c. Mini project (MN/MP 200 and 300) or description of the process or equipment
(MN/MP 100)
The weekly report
d. Description of daily activities
e. Details of the weekly main activity
The general content of the PT report includes;
i. Acknowledgement:
Where assistance has been received, this is usually acknowledged. Use a separate page
for this event, though it occupies only a few lines.
ii. Abstracts
This is a very brief outline of the objective and principal indicating of content of the report,
without any description or discussion.
iii. Contents
List sequentially the several chapters and sub-sections against corresponding page
numbers. Also include on separate tables the list of figures, tables, abbreviations, etc.
The format to be used is indicated in Section 2.
iv. Main Report
This embodies the information you wish to present to the readers. Remember that some
may not be well acquainted with the subject, so avoid assuming that they are. A typical
PT report could have the following layout:
a) Introduction
A brief introduction of the company and its function
b) Historical background
Give a brief review of the process (es), tracing their development
c) Descriptive

Describe here, using sub-sections as required, the plant, process, machinery,
organization, quality control, marketing, etc. Use drawings and flow sheets as
required.
d) Project
State the aim of the project and give any relevant theory.
e) Experimental
Clearly state the experimental procedures you adopted.
f) Results and Discussion
Discuss the results you have obtained and their reliability. Compare with the
theory design performance etc.
g) Conclusion and Recommendation
Summarize major findings from (f) above and make appropriate recommendations
(if any).
h) Bibliography
List all references used.

II. WEEKLY REPORT (16 -20 pages)

2. Details of the main activity
The whole report should be between 40 to 55 pages. There will be a penalty for
additional pages. The font should be ‘Times Roman’, size 12 for text and line spacing
1.15.
3. PT REPORT SUBMISSION
The reports will be submitted on Monday of the second week of semester 1, by 2 pm,
to the PT coordinator's office (Room R303 or R326). Late submissions will not be
accepted. Submission should include;
i. One hard copy of the report and training officer assessment
ii. Soft copy of the report and training officer assessment submitted to respective
the class reps by 2 pm of report submission day. Soft copies will be used to
check for any sort of cheating, including copying, use of AI etc.
Any confirmed case of cheating will result in a zero mark for the PT and may lead to
discontinuation from the program, depending on the outcome of the assessment.
