Identify and explain each of the Six defense strategies created by the National Security Act of 1947?

The first strategy of the NSA was the need of the development of the atomic bomb perpetuates the need
of a larger weapon to the soviet union was kept in check. The creation of the Hydrogen Bomb became
pivotal because it brought the arms race to a level of “mutually assured destruction” bringing the
technological race to a halt.

The second strategy of the NSA was a complete overall of the military industrialized complex. The
creation of the Department of Defense and the National Security Council would streamline military
planning and service multiple united states presidents for years to come.

The third Strategy of the NSA was to support friendly democratic nations both financially and militarily.
The drawing of the Marshall Plan ensured that a blockade in trade and military would aid in an economic
and military spread of communism.

The fourth Strategy of the NSA was the forming of alliances with friendly democratic nations, ensuring a
global alliance focused on the stopping the spread of communism. This endeavor lead to the creation of
NATO.

A need to covert Soviet espionage to intercept, interpret and utilize information from the Communist
regime. This saw the creation of the CIA focused on both intercepting in nation communications and
pursuing information within the USSR.

A need to propagandize the strong points of democracy via a trans global showcasing of American
musicians, Artists and athletes via the International Exchange program.

Explain the Civil Rights movement? A social endeavor between 1954-1968 in pursuit of the equal rights
of African Americans. The fight against segregation, discrimination and disenfranchisement against
African Americans across the nation.

Identify and Explain at least 3 movements inspired by the Civil Rights Movement that arose in the
1960’s?

Gay Rights Movement- the Lgbt movement was a pursuit of gay, lesbian and transgender Americans to
be decriminalized and to stop the discrimination and wrongful police persecution based on sexuality.
Events such as the Stonewall Riot erupted from the civil right’s nonviolent movement, proving that gay
persons will not be complacent in being victimized anymore.

Chicanos movement- the movement of Latin American peoples to seek equal wages and to bar
discrimination in the agricultural work market saw tremendous growth thanks to the civil rights
movement. Cesar Chavez led a group unionizing migrant farm workers working towards fair pay.

Women’s Rights movement the feminist movement saw tremendous strides in working towards gender
equality in the workplace in which they are still disproportionately underpaid compared to their male
counterparts.

Identify and Explain President Nixon’s three prong approach to ending the Vietnam War?
Expansion of South Vietnamese territories and regions, Equipment of the South Vietnamese troops to
the point they had the fourth largest air force on the globe and training of the south Vietnamese both
militarily and in building schools to prompt education of democracy within the south of the nation.

Explain some of the ways Americans responded in protest to the Vietnam war in the 1960’s

Conscientious objectors would be a primary way citizens would try to protest or more aptly not serve
during the draft. The belief in it being morally wrong and against ones religious beliefs. Self wounding
would happen additionally in an attempt to avoid being drafted. Burning of Draft cards in a public
statement decrying the disproportionate of poor and black being drafted into the war.

How did the emphasis on the containing communism impact the US decision to engage militarily in
Vietnam?

President John Kennedy strong believed that the communist Chinese were planning on taking Vietnam.
Per the Domino Theory, the belief that once Communism spread to Vietnam, it would spread pan asia.
