Open a document.

Ctrl+O
Create a new document. Ctrl+N
Save the document. Ctrl+S
Close the document. Ctrl+W
Cut the selected content to the Clipboard. Ctrl+X
Copy the selected content to the Clipboard. Ctrl+C
Paste the contents of the Clipboard. Ctrl+V
Paste text only. Ctrl+Shift+V
Select all document content. Ctrl+A
Apply bold formatting to text. Ctrl+B
Apply italic formatting to text. Ctrl+I
Apply underline formatting to text. Ctrl+U
Decrease the font size by 1 point. Ctrl+Left bracket ([)
Increase the font size by 1 point. Ctrl+Right bracket (])
Center the text. Ctrl+E
Align the text to the left. Ctrl+L
Align the text to the right. Ctrl+R
Cancel a command. Esc
Undo the previous action. Ctrl+Z
Redo the previous action, if possible. Ctrl+Y
Zoom in. Ctrl+Plus sign (+)
Zoom out. Ctrl+Minus sign (-)
Return back to 100% zoom. Ctrl+0
Displays and closes the Start Menu

+E Opens a new Explorer Window

+D Minimizes all windows and shows the Desktop

+D Opens all windows and takes you right back to where you were

+F Displays the Find all files dialog box

+L Lock your Windows XP computer

+M Minimizes all open windows

+ SHIFT+M Un-Minimize all applications. Restores all previously open windows

+R Displays the Run command

+ F1 Displays the Windows Help menu

+ PAUSE/BREAK PAUSE/BREAK Displays the Systems Properties dialog box

+U Displays the Utility Manager with Narrator, Magnifier, etc.

 DELETE (Delete)

 Ctrl + C – Copy
 Ctrl + V – Paste
 Ctrl + X – Cut
 Alt + Tab – Switch between open applications
 Windows + D – Show desktop
 Windows + L – Lock your PC
 Ctrl + Shift + Esc – Open Task Manager
 Windows + Print Screen – Take a full screenshot
 Ctrl + T – Open new tab
 Ctrl + W – Close current tab
 Ctrl + Shift + T – Reopen last closed tab
 Ctrl + Tab – Switch to next tab
 F1 – Open Help
 F2 – Rename a file or folder
 F5 – Refresh the page or document
 F11 – Toggle full-screen mode
 Ctrl + C – Copy text
 Ctrl + X – Cut text
 Ctrl + V – Paste text
 Ctrl + Z – Undo
 Ctrl + Y – Redo
 Backspace: this key deletes backwards as you type.
 Delete: this key deletes forward as you type.
 Shift: this key, when pressed with another key, will perform a secondary function.
 If the key is a letter key, pressing the shift and letter key at the same time will result in an
Uppercase letter.
 If you want to enter special characters like #; press shift and the key with a number.
 There are two Shift keys on the keyboard.
 Spacebar: This key enters a space between words as you type.
 Tab: This key will force the cursor to indent or jump forward 10 spaces or take you to the
next space on a login screen.
 Caps Lock: This key will present the capitalised version of each letter key. It is a toggle
switch that locks until you press it again.
 Control (Ctrl) & Alternate (Alt): These keys, when pressed WITH another key, perform
a shortcut. There are two on the keyboard.
 Enter: This key executes a command (pressed in MS Word, it begins a new line). This
may sometimes be marked „Return‟.
 Number keypad: This key is designed to provide calculator-style efficiency for entering
numbers. It is not present on all keyboards.
 Arrow keys: Like the mouse, these keys are used to navigate through the document;
move up or down.
Ctrl+A = Selects all text in a document.
Ctrl+S = Save. While working on a document or another file in almost every program, pressing
Ctrl+S saves that file.
Ctrl+P = Print. This action is used to open a print preview of the page or document currently
being viewed.
Ctrl+C = Copy. This action will copy the highlighted text.
Ctrl+V = Paste. This action will paste the copied or cut text.
Ctrl+X = Cut. This action will cut highlighted text.
Ctrl+Z = Undo. This action will roll back to your last action.
PrtScn = Screenshot. This action opens the “snipping tool” to allow you to screenshot whole or
parts of the entire screen and saves it as a PNG file in a Screenshots folder inside your Pictures
folder.
