I. Answer the following questions in two or three sentences

1. How does the PN junction act as rectifier?
2. Define Photovoltaic effect.
3. Differentiate between the a.c. load line and d.c. load line.
4. Why has potential divider method of biasing become universal?
5. List out the advantages and disadvantages of a direct coupled transistor amplifier.
6. Why is negative feedback applied in high gain amplifiers?
7. Define damped oscillations.
8. What is the significance of arrow in the transistor symbol?
9. Subtract 9 from 18 by two’s compliment method.
10. Draw the schematic symbol of an operational amplifier indicating the various terminals.
11. Simplify the expression: 𝑌 = 𝐴𝐵 + 𝐴𝐵𝐶 + 𝐴𝐵𝐶 .
12. What are the types of shift register?

II. Answer the following questions

13. Discuss voltage multipliers.
14. Explain the concept of operating point.
15. A common base transistor amplifier has an input resistance of 20 Ω and output resistance
of 100 kΩ. The collector load is 1 kΩ. If a signal of 500 mV is applied between emitter
and base, find the voltage amplification by assuming 𝛼 = 1.
16. In a Colpitts oscillator, 𝐶1 = 0.1 𝜇𝐹, 𝐶2 = 1 𝜇𝐹 and 𝐿 = 470 𝜇𝐻, determine the:
(a) Operating frequency
(b) Feedback fraction
17. Determine the closed loop voltage gain for a non-inverting op-amp. Given the feedback
resistance 𝑅𝑓 = 100 𝑘Ω and input resistance 𝑅𝑖 = 50 𝑘Ω.

19. Explain Weinbridge oscillator.

III. Write an essay on any one of the following: (1 x 10 = 10 Marks)


20. With a neat diagram of single stage transistor amplifier, explain the function of each
component and draw its d.c. and a.c. equivalent circuits.
21. Explain working of positive edge triggered J-K flip flop with the help of a neat diagram.
Draw the timing diagram of J-K flip flop.
