a) In its simplest form Energy is the ability to do work.
b) The universe is a combination of the energy and matter.
c) Matter is a substance and energy is the mover of substance.
d) Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it may be transformed from one form into another,
but the total amount of energy never changes.

2. What is the law of conservation of energy?

a) Energy is constant.
b) It cannot be made or destroyed.
c) Energy can change from one form to another.

3. Can one form of energy be changed to another form of energy? Explain your answer?
a) Yes, friction or moving energy/ kinetic energy changes to heat energy.

4. What is an energy source?

a) A source of energy is something that stores or provides energy that can be used.

5. Explain why we say the sun is an energy source?

a) Energy in our sun is released.
b) It turns into light and heat reaching the earth.
c) The light and heat make plants grow.
d) Animals eat the plants that enable them to live and move around.
e) People eat the plants, or we eat the animals that eat the plants.
f) The animals and humans can then move around, jumping, running and so on.
g) This refers to the Ecological system.

6. Name the 5 forms of energy?

a) Kinetic / moving energy
b) Chemical / nuclear energy
c) Heat energy

9. Fill in the missing words?
Non-renewable sources of energy - Many of our sources or energy are fossil fuels. Oil, coal
and gas are the most common fossil fuels. Fossil fuels come from fossils, which are remains
of plants and animals that died millions of years ago. In today’s world, we have come to rely
heavily on fossil fuels, but these fuels are running out. Fossil fuels also produce lots of
carbon dioxide when they burn, and this contributes to global warming.

10. Name 4 non-renewable sources of energy and what they are used for.
a) Coal – Used to make electricity, petrol and other synthetic fuels.
b) Oil – Used to make petrol, diesel or paraffin.
c) Gas – It is converted into synthetic oil to replace crude oil.
d) Uranium – Nuclear power stations produce heat energy / electricity.

11. What is the most important source of energy in our modern world and why?
Oil – It can be used to make other substances such as paraffin, diesel and petrol which we
use in our cars, planes and trains.

12. What is a renewable source of energy?

Renewable energy source are continually replenished or replaced.

13. Name 5 renewable sources of energy and explain how they generate energy.
a) Hydropower – Enegry from falling water to make electricity
b) Wave and tidal power – The rise and fall of tides or the movement of waves is used to
generate energy.
c) Wind energy – Energy from wind that turns turbines makes electricity.
d) Solar energy – Heat energy from the sun is stored and formed into electricity.
e) Biofuel – Energy from the sun is stored in all plant matter, mainly wood. We can also get
energy from animal dung.
