Vineland–3, Comprehensive/Domain-Level Interview Form (Ages 0–90+ Years)

Vineland–3, Comprehensive/Domain-Level Interview Form:

Table 1

Adaptive Behavior Composite and Domain-Level Standard Score Summary

Domain Standard 95% CIa PRb Adaptive Measured skills

score level

Adaptive Behavior 000 [000, 000] 0.00 Adequate General adaptive behavior: “…the
Composite (ABC)c performance of daily activities required
for personal and social sufficiency.”d
Communication -- [---, ---] -- Moderately Receptive, expressive, and written
(COM) low communication.

Daily Living Skills -- [---, ---] -- Mild Personal, domestic, and community skills.
(DLS) deficit

Socialization -- [---, ---] -- Moderate Interpersonal relationships, play and

(SOC) deficit leisure time, and coping skills.

Motor Skills -- [---, ---] -- Severe Gross and fine motor skills.
(MOT) deficit

Note. Standard score mean = 100, standard deviation = 15, range 20–140. Lower scores indicate greater levels
of impairment. CI = confidence interval; PR = percentile rank. -- denotes not administered, or score type not
available or computed. ABC data are in boldface.
a
95% CI = the range within which the examinee’s true score falls with 95% certainty. bPR = the percentage of
individuals in the norm reference sample (i.e., the population of same aged peers) that the examinee scores
equal to or higher than. cThe ABC is a composite of the following domains: COM; DLS; and SOC. MOT is
optional for examinees ranging in age from birth through 9 years. dSparrow, S. S., Cicchetti, D.V., & Balla, D.
A. (2005). Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Second Edition (Vineland-II): Survey forms manual (p. 6).
Minneapolis, MN: Pearson Assessments.

Respondent: Mother/Father/Parent/Caregiver/Foster Parent.

Interpretation-No impairment:

The Adaptive Behavior Composite (ABC) falls in the normal range of functioning. Similarly, all
measured domains, including the optional Motor Skills Domain (MOT), also fall within normal
limits. There is no evidence of impairment in adaptive behavior functioning. Such data
effectively rule out the presence of intellectual disability./Such data are negative for the presence
of an autism spectrum disorder.

Interpretation-impairment:

The Adaptive Behavior Composite (ABC) falls within the ….. deficit range of functioning.
Furthermore, # of four measured domains are also showing varying degrees of impairment,
ranging from ….. to ….., including/although not including the optional Motor Skills Domain
(MOT).
 Such data are accordant with the intelligence test IQ scores (see Table #), and confirm the
presence of an intellectual disability (ID). Further analysis of the score elevations
indicates that the ID is ….. in degree.
 Such data are consistent with the presence of neurodevelopmental disorder. Hence,
domain pairwise comparisons will be done to further inform differential diagnosis.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Adaptive Behavior Composite (ABC) indicates that ….. is functioning within the ….. range
relative to individuals of the same age. The confidence interval (CI) indicates that it can be
stated with 95% certainty the true ABC falls somewhere between ….. and ….., which is well-
within the aforementioned range of functioning, hence providing greater confidence in this
conclusion/which shows an overlap with the ….. range of functioning. This means that the true
ABC score can fall into either of these adaptive levels. The percentile rank means that …..’s
adaptive behavior is equal to or greater than ….. percent of the population of same aged peers.

Analysis of the domain CIs indicates consistent functioning as evidenced by a remarkable degree
of overlap with the CI of the ABC. Analysis of the domain CIs shows a lack of overlap with the
CI of the ABC, which indicates likely differential performance. The lowest/highest scores are
found among the Communication/Daily Living Skills/Socialization/Motor Skills Domains,
which are mostly responsible for lowering/raising the ABC.

Ipsative analysis among the domains shows consistent functioning as evidenced by a remarkable
degree of overlap/shows likely differences as evidenced by the significant degree of separation
among the reported CIs. Because they do not/carry diagnostic and treatment implications,
formal pairwise comparisons with hypothesis testing for any significant differences will not/be
done.

Note. Base rate = percentage of the population (i.e., as represented by the norm-reference
sample) who obtained the 1st – 2nd listed standard score difference. -- denotes not reported due to
missing data or statistically nonsignificant difference.
a
No asterisk denotes that the 1st – 2nd standard score difference occurs by chance more than 1
time in 100 and is therefore statistically nonsignificant (i.e., the difference is merely due to
chance or error); * denotes that the 1st – 2nd standard score difference occurs by chance less than 1
time in 100 and is therefore statistically significant (i.e., it is a true or real difference). bNo cross
denotes that the base rate is typical (n > 15%); † denotes that the base rate is unusual (n ≤ 15%);
††
denotes that the base rate is abnormal (n ≤ 10%); ††† denotes that the base rate is rare and
profoundly abnormal (n ≤ 5%).

Interpretation:

Of the pairwise comparisons done due to possible differential performance, none are statistically
significant. Therefore, no further analyses of base rate data are needed or required.

Of the pairwise comparisons done due to possible differential performance, the following are
statistically significant, with the first-listed domain showing significantly higher functioning and
the base rate result in parentheses: (a) ….. versus ….. (typical/unusual/abnormal/profoundly
abnormal); (b) ….. versus ….. (typical/unusual/abnormal/profoundly abnormal); (c) ….. versus

Communication Subdomain v–Scale Score Summary

Subdomain v–Scale 95% CIab PRcd Adaptive Measured skills

score level
Receptive 00 [00, 00] 00.00 Adequate Listening; paying attention; comprehending
others’ speech.
Expressive -- [--, --] --.-- Moderately Speaking to others; use of words and
low sentences to gather and provide information.
Written -- [--, --] --.-- Mild deficit Understanding how letters make words;
comprehending what one reads and writes.

Note. v–Scale score mean = 15, standard deviation = 3, range = 1–24. Lower scores indicate greater
impairment. CI = confidence interval; AG = age equivalent. -- denotes not administered, or score type not
available or computed.
a
95% CI = the range within which the examinee’s true score falls with 95% certainty. bCI is based upon an
estimated standard error of measurement (SEM) of 1; SEM is estimated by computing the average of all
SEM subdomains reported in the test manual, which were themselves averaged overall all age bands and
based upon the subdomains’ internal consistency reliability coefficients. cPR = the percentage of individuals
in the norm reference sample (i.e., the population of same aged peers) that the examinee scores equal to or
higher than. dPR values are derived from the theoretical standard normal distribution.

Interpretation:

Communication Subdomain. The Communication Subdomains generally fall within the …../to
….. range of functioning relative to same-aged peers.

The lowest Communication Subdomains is/are Receptive/Expressive/Written, which fall/s within

the profound/severe/moderate/mild deficit/moderately low/high/adequate range of functioning.
The highest subdomains is/are Receptive/Expressive/Written, which falls within the
profound/severe/moderate/mild deficit/moderately low/high/adequate range of functioning.

Ipsative analysis shows that the CIs manifest a significant or large degree of overlap. Hence, no
apparent relative weaknesses or strengths are evident as functioning is equivalent among the
subdomain areas./Ipsative analysis shows moderate to large differences among the CIs. This
indicates the presence of a/relative or intraindividual weakness/es in ….. adaptive skill areas and
thus should be a special focus of intervention.
