DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENTS
• EARTHMOVING EQUIPMENT
1. EXCAVATOR
An excavator is a heavy piece of machinery used to
dig and crush material on a site. It consists of a
hydraulic crane-like boom with a metal shovel that
has sharp prongs on the end.
2. BULLDOZER
Primarily, bulldozers are used in the initial phases of
road construction for clearing and leveling the
terrain.
3. SCRAPERS
This equipment is designed to efficiently excavate,
load, and transport large volumes of soil, gravel, or
other construction materials, making them
invaluable assets in various stages of road
construction.
4. WHEEL LOADER
A loader is a type of heavy equipment essential on a
construction site. This machine is used to load
different kinds of materials onto dump boxes, dump
trucks, and other vehicles or platforms.
5. BACKHOE
It is best utilized for digging earth and carrying loose
soil from one place to another. It can also be used
to fulfill small demolitions, landscaping, and
trench digging
6. TRENCHER
Trenchers are the perfect tool for digging ditches,
channels or other long, narrow holes for things like
underground piping and cables.
• ROAD CONSTRUCTION & PAVING EQUIPMENT
7. PAVER
A pavement laying equipment that will keep the
road surface of the project smooth and even.
This piece of equipment is used to distribute
asphalt or concrete over a surface evenly.
8. MOTOR GRADER
Motor graders play a vital role in road construction.
They're used to level and shape the ground, creating
a smooth and even road surface
9. ROAD ROLLER
The main purpose of a road roller is to flatten the
surface and make the loose soil more compact. come
in different types mainly – grid rollers, smooth-
wheeled, and pneumatic tyred rollers.
10. COMPACTOR
It is used to flatten roads to prepare them for re-
asphalting or to lay foundation. The plate
compactor is the most commonly used. Another
common compactor is a road rolling compactor.
11. COLD PLANAR
A cold planer grinds asphalt, removing it from its
original location. This machine drives down a space
and picks up laid asphalt, mills it and then shoots out
a belt system into a dump truck.
12. ROAD RECLAIMER
When highways begin to deteriorate and become
destabilized, road reclaimers are used to help
reinforce and reconstruct the road.
13. ASPHALT DISTRIBUTOR
A specialized vehicle equipped with a tank and spray
bar for applying liquid asphalt uniformly onto the
road surface.
• MATERIAL HANDLING & LIFTING EQUIPMENT
14. DUMP TRUCK
Dump trucks are vehicles that transport loose
materials like gravel, sand, dirt and construction
waste. They’re known for their open-top beds and
hydraulic lifting mechanisms that can effectively tip
or “dump” materials out of the vehicle.
15. TRUCK-MOUNTED CRANE
Cranes are a type of construction machinery that are
there to facilitate easier transport of cargo around
the site – especially for tall jobs
16. FORKLIFT
If materials need to be transported a short
distance, this equipment can be used. The lift can
move materials both vertically and horizontally. This
equipment is great for loading and unloading heavy
packages/materials.
17. UTILITY VEHICLE
A sturdy vehicle features four-wheel drive and
robust suspension systems that transport materials or
personnel across difficult terrain.
18. WATER TRUCK
In the construction industry, water trucks are
workhorses, delivering large volumes of
water directly where it's needed on the job site.
• EQUIPMENTS FOR CONCRETE & OTHER STRUCTURAL WORKS
19. CONCRETE MIXER (One Bagger)
Concrete mixers are used to mix the ingredients
of concrete to achieve concrete of specified
consistency. Using this machine large volume
of concrete with superior quality can be
produced.
20. CONCRETE MIXER TRUCK
Also called transit mixer. It is made to transport, and
mix concrete up to the construction site.
21. CONCRETE VIBRATOR
Vibrators are used for the compaction of concrete
after placement. There are two types of vibrators
internal or needle vibrators and external
vibrators.
22. CRUSHER
Crushers are used to reduce the large rock or boulder
sizes to smaller and uniform sizes acceptable for
concrete mix. Common types of crushers are jaw
crushers and hammer mill crushers.
23. PILE DRIVER
Pile drivers help create stable foundations for
roadways and bridges by driving piles into the
ground to support heavy loads and withstand
environmental challenges.
24. DRILLING RIG
It is an integrated system that drills wells, such
as oil or water wells, or holes for piling and
other construction purposes into the earth's
subsurface.
