1. What is MS Word?
Microsoft Word is a popular tool developed by Microsoft for creating and working
with text documents. As part of the Microsoft Office suite alongside programs like
Excel and PowerPoint which it helps users write, edit, and organize everything from
resumes and reports to letters and essays. It’s a go-to software for both everyday
writing tasks and professional document creation.
2. Parts of MS Word Interface.
Title Bar Displays the name of the document and the program (e.g.,
"Document1 - Word").
Quick Access Found in the top-left corner, it provides shortcuts to
Tool Bar frequently used commands like Save, Undo, and Redo.
Ribbon The main toolbar that organizes commands into tabs (e.g.,
Home, Insert, Design). Each tab has groups of related
tools.
Tabs on the Home – basic formatting (font, alignment, styles)

Insert – add tables, pictures, links, headers/footers
Design – apply document themes and styles
Layout – adjust margins, spacing, orientation
References – manage citations, tables of contents
Review – spell check, comments, track changes
View – document views, zoom, navigation pane
Document Area The blank page where you type and edit your text.
Status Bar Located at the bottom of the window, it shows info like
page number, word count, and language.
Scroll Bars Vertical and horizontal bars that let you move through the
document.
Zoom Control Found in the bottom-right corner, it allows you to zoom in
or out of the document.
Ruler Helps with alignment and setting tabs, indents, and
margins.
File Tab Opens a menu for saving, opening, printing, and sharing
documents.
