CLASS XI : PHYSICS REVISION WORKSHEET: 2016 – 17

TOPICS : VECTORS & PROJECTILE MOTION

1. An aeroplane is flying in north east direction with a velocity of 720 km/h. The wind is
blowing towards south with a velocity of 36 km/h. Calculate the displacement of the
aeroplane after 1 hour using the concept of unit vectors.

2. The sum and the difference of two vectors are equal in magnitude : l ⃗A + ⃗B l = l ⃗A − ⃗B l
Prove that the vectors ⃗A and ⃗⃗⃗
B are perpendicular to each other.

3. A river flows at 3 m/s and is 300 m wide. A man swims across the river with a velocity of 2
m/s directed always perpendicular to the flow of current.

i. How long does it take the man to cross the river?

ii. In what direction does he actually move relative to the shore?
iii. How far down the stream (from the starting point) does he reach the opposite bank?

̂ and 𝐵
4. Prove that 𝐴 = 4𝒊̂ + 3𝒋̂ + 𝒌 ̂ are parallel to each other.
⃗ = 12𝒊̂ + 9𝒋̂ + 3𝒌

5. An arrow is thrown in the air. Its time of flight is 5 s and the range is 200 m. Determine

i. The vertical component of the velocity of projection

ii. The horizontal component of the velocity of projection
iii. The maximum height
iv. The angle made with the horizontal ( g = 9.8 m s-2 )

6. A stone is thrown from the top of a tower at an angle of 30o up with the horizontal with a
velocity of 16 m/s. After 4 seconds of flight, it strikes the ground. Calculate the height of the
tower from the ground and the horizontal range of the stone. ( g = 9.8 m s-2 )

7. The ceiling of a long hall is 25m high. What is the maximum horizontal distance that a ball
thrown with a speed of 40 m/s can go without hitting the ceiling of the hall? ( g = 9.8 m s-2 )

8. A cricketer can throw a ball to a maximum horizontal distance of 100 m. How much high
above the ground can the cricketer throw the same ball?
