ABOUT MANIPAL UNIVERSITY JAIPUR
The Manipal Education Group, with its heritage of excellence in higher

2011. MUJ was established on an invitation from the Government of
Rajasthan and has been established by an Act (No. 21 of 2011) of State
Legislature of Rajasthan as a State Private University as specified by UGC

Manipal University Jaipur forayed into the field of legal education by
introducing Five-year Integrated BA LLB(Hons.), BBA LLB (Hons.),
Bachelor of Law (LLB), Master of Law (LLM), and Ph.D. programs. As an
institution of excellence, and a leading university in Rajasthan, Manipal
University Jaipur is dedicated to providing students with a world-class
education in the field of law.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION
With Negotiation gaining traction in recent times as a preferred means of dispute resolution,
Faculty of Law, Manipal University Jaipur is organizing the 3rd Edition of the International
Negotiation Competition, which aims to provide a platform that reflects the ever-growing
expectation of clients to utilize other cost-effective alternative dispute resolution mechanisms
to trial. It is an ideal platform to test theory in practice by allowing the participants to
represent all parties in the negotiation process i.e., the client and the mediation counsel. This
competition will also provide an opportunity to the participants to develop the requisite
lawyering and communication skills through various training sessions conducted by industry
professionals.
This International Negotiation Competition has the following objectives:
1. To promote the use of negotiation among the participants around the world.
2. To enhance the negotiation skills among the participants.
3. To encourage the exchange of ideas between the participants.
The competition seeks to give legal students from leading universities throughout the world
an opportunity to exercise and enhance their negotiation skills. It affords pupils the
opportunity to compete in a genuinely diverse and global setting.
2ND EDITION OF INTERNATIONAL NEGOTIATION
COMPETITION
The International Negotiation Competition 2.0 was a highly engaging in-person
event that elevated practical legal training by emphasizing core negotiation skills. It
commenced with preliminary rounds that saw enthusiastic participation, as teams
tackled challenging negotiation scenarios designed to test their strategic thinking,
communication, and client-focused decision-making.
The top-performing teams advanced to the semi-finals and finals, held on campus
in a simulated professional setting. These rounds intensified the competition as
participants demonstrated their abilities in high-pressure, real-time negotiation
tasks.
Judged by a panel of faculty experts and legal professionals, the competition
concluded with recognition for outstanding teams through certificates and
accolades, celebrating their performance and professionalism.
More than just a contest, the event offered a valuable platform for experiential
learning, skill development, and peer engagement. It reinforced the importance of
negotiation as a core legal competency which is essential for resolving disputes,
managing client relationships, and navigating real-world legal challenges in today’s
dynamic professional environment.
IMPORTANT DATES
FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION
The Competition will be conducted virtually on GOOGLE MEET.
All rounds of the Competition will be conducted from 04th - 5th September 2025.
Each participating team shall consist of a Client-Negotiating Counsel pair (i.e., the
Negotiation Team).
Teams must complete the provisional registration by filling out the form released. The
registration will be based on a first-come first-served basis, and the first 26 registrations
will be considered.
Final registration of the team is contingent upon the team's selection by the organsing
committee and successful payment of the registration fee by the participating team,
details of which shall be notified upon selection.
The Competition consists of a Preliminary Round, Quarter-Finals Round, Semi-Final
Round, and Final Round.
The top-scoring teams shall qualify progressively for the subsequent rounds. The final
scores shall be awarded at the sole discretion of the judges, and we respectfully submit
that no further representations or requests for reconsideration will be entertaine
The winner shall be determined from the Final Round score only. In case of a tie, the
cumulative score secured across the previous competitive rounds shall serve as the tie-
breaker to determine the winner.
RULES OF THE COMPETITION
INTERPRETATIONS
“Clarifications” refer to procedural order(s) and/or any clarification(s) issued by the
administrator(s).
“Client” is the student of a Negotiating Team who plays the role of the Client in a
Session of the Competition.
“Competition” means the ‘International Negotiation Competition’.
“Competition Administrator(s)” means the person(s) in-charge of organizing and
managing the Competition.
“Competition Rounds” means the Preliminary Round, the quater-Final Round,
the Quarter-Final Round, the Semi-Final Round, the Final Round and any other
rounds that the Competition Administrator may so designate.
“Counsel” is the student of each Negotiating Team who plays the role of counsel
in a Session of the Competition.
“General Information” means the factual information in relation to a Negotiation
Proposition that is provided to both the parties.
“Confidential Information” means certain factual information containing
confidential elements to be taken into account in determining the strategy and tactics
of the Negotiator Teams in a given Session.
“Negotiation Team” are the 2 students representing a team that have been
admitted to act as Client and Counsel in the Competition.
“Requesting Party” is the party to which the Competition has assigned the role of the party
which has requested the negotiation.
“Responding Party” is the party to which the Competition has assigned the role of the party
which has to respond to the request for the negotiation.
ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION
Each institute may enter this competition with a maximum of two teams
The Competition is open to students currently enrolled in three-year or five-
year integrated law degree programs at any recognized
University/College/School/Department of Law.
Students enrolled in postgraduate law programs (LL.M. or equivalent),
diploma or certificate courses, or part-time law programs are not eligible to
participate.
Each Participating Team will:(i) consist of two Eligible Students; and (ii) not
be permitted to change the composition of its team once the same has been
communicated to the Competition Administrator (other than in case of
unforeseen circumstances, such as severe medical ailment and denial of visa).
DISQUALIFICATION
Subject to the discretion of the Competition Administrator, the following may result in the
disqualification of a Participating Team:
Change in the composition of the Participating Team once communicated to the
Competition Administrator.
Disclosure, in any manner whatsoever, of Confidential Information relating to a
Negotiation Simulation.
Non-compliance with the Competition Rules.
Contravention of Competition rules shall lead to disqualification. Teams are required to be
anonymous, and communications are to be made referring to the allotted Team Code.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Once the registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email from the official email ID of
the Organizing Committee.
The Registration Fees shall be Rs. 3500/- for Indian Participants & USD 45 for Foreign Participants.
The registration fee is non-refundable under any circumstances once the registration process is
successfully completed
Upon submission of the final registration form, teams will receive their team code and a payment link
via the email address provided in their registration form.
Once the payment is completed and verified by the organizing committee, the team will be considered
officially registered for the competition
Register at the Earliest as the seats are limited to only 26 teams (FIRST- COME FIRST-SERVED
BASIS).
TEAM IDENTIFICATION AND ANONYMITY RULE
After registration, participating teams will be provided with a Team Code, which
will serve as their unique identifier. All communication must be made in reference
to this Team Code. Any details or information regarding the registered teams shall
not be disclosed to the Panelists in any way. If done by any team or an individual
of a team will lead to disqualification of the team
TIME SCHEDULE
COMPETITION PROPOSITIONS
Four negotiation propositions will be sent to all participating teams before the start
of the Competition at a date communicated by the organising committee. All
participating teams will receive general information for the Preliminary Round,
quarter final Round, the Semi-Final, and the Final Round
There will be Separate Problems for different rounds with different Confidential
Information in each round.
Each Mediation Problem will consist of General Information for all the parties. The
Negotiation problem for all rounds will be sent to the teams via WhatsApp Group on
or by mail.
The confidential information shall be provided to the negotiation team 30 minutes
prior to the sessions.
Whilst the Participating Teams are not allowed to create new facts, the Negotiation
Propositions are subject to reasonable interpretation and the Participating Teams may
draw reasonable conclusions from them. Whether a Participating Team's
Interpretation is reasonable is a matter entirely within the discretion of the Judges.
Failure to stay within a reasonable interpretation of the Negotiation Proposition may
result in a Penalty in accordance with the Competition Rules. In case of any doubt in
the understanding or interpretation of any matter concerning the Competition, the
decision of the Competition Administrator will be final and binding.
MARKING CRITERIA
Each member of the negotiating team — both counsel and client, shall be
evaluated individually, with a maximum of 100 marks awarded per participant.
Judges are expected to assess each participant based on their independent
performance, and contribution throughout the negotiation process

Winner: Cash Prize of INR 20,000/-, Trophy & Certificate of Appreciation
for both counsels
Runner-up: Cash Prize of INR 10,000/-, Trophy & Certificate of Appreciation
for both counsels
Best Counsel: Trophy & Certificate of Appreciation
Best Client: Trophy & Certificate of Appreciation
Certificates of merit shall be awarded to each participant
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to add detailed regulations at
any time if they are deemed necessary
