Question 1: Preface and welcome
In Lesson 0 (Preface and Welcome), I was
introduced to the scope and expectations of
BSM2602. The main focus of this lesson was to
understand the importance of approaching the
module with discipline, planning, and reflective
learning. I completed the activity for Learning
Journal 1, where I reflected on the question: 'What
do you think information management is all about?'
My response was that information management
involves the collection, organisation, storage, and
distribution of information so that it can be used
effectively in decision-making. It ensures that data is
accurate, accessible, and secure, supporting both
operational efficiency and strategic planning.

information strategy with organisational goals.
Notes on Information Flow Video (diagram
representation):
[Insert diagram screenshot here]
The flow typically starts with data collection →
processing → storage → analysis → distribution to
decision-makers.
Learning Journal Entry 1 Activity:
1) My answer: Information management ensures
information is managed effectively to improve
decision-making.
2) AI’s answer: Information management is the
structured process of collecting, storing, and using
information to achieve organisational objectives.
5
Student number: __________________
3) My marking: AI’s answer was accurate and similar
to mine. Both emphasised structured management
of information.
4) Reflection: The main difference was that AI
stressed organisational objectives, while I focused
more on decision-making.
Notes on Types of IM Systems Video (infographic):
Examples include Document Management Systems
(for record keeping), Knowledge Management
Systems (to share expertise), and Database
Management Systems (for structured data). These
systems differ in purpose: DMS focuses on
documents, KMS on tacit knowledge, and DBMS on
structured datasets.

Reflections:
This portfolio helped me engage deeply with
information management and public relations. I
learnt how critical information flow and systems are
to organisational success, and how PR builds
stakeholder trust. The most challenging part was
analysing AI’s answers and comparing them with my

how theory links with practice, especially regarding
IM managers’ responsibilities and PR’s role in
reputation management.
What I learnt: The importance of structured
information management and ethical PR.
What was difficult: Keeping track of all activities and
inserting screenshots.
What I enjoyed: The video lessons and practical
examples.
Knowledge gained: Yes, my understanding of IM and
PR has increased significantly.
Impact at work: I now value structured record-
keeping and effective communication.
Application: I apply these skills in both personal
