Types of Addresses
1. Registered office address
2. Trading address
3. Correspondence/Service Address
Registered Office Address
The registered office is the official address of a UK limited company, where important
correspondence from government bodies, such as HMRC and Companies House, is sent.
It’s important to note that the company does not need to operate from the registered office,
nor does any representative have to be physically based there. The key requirement is that
any official government communication delivered to this address must be accessible to
company officers.
Your place of business can serve as the registered office, provided it is within the UK, and
you have permission from the property’s landlord(s) to use the address.
Additionally, the registered office address is publicly available on the Companies House
register, meaning anyone can easily access it through an online search
Trading Address
A trading address is where a business operates and conducts its activities. It may also be
where non-official correspondence —such as mail from banks, clients, or suppliers—is
sent.
Unlike the registered office, there’s no legal definition for a trading address, and it doesn’t
appear on the Companies House public register. The trading address can differ from the
registered office.
Correspondence/Service Address
A correspondence address, more commonly known as a service address, is the official
contact address of a company officer, subscriber, person with significant control (PSC), or
member of a limited liability partnership (LLP).
The purpose of a correspondence address is to facilitate the delivery of official letters and
notices from Companies House, HMRC, the courts, and other government agencies in
relation to a person’s role in a UK-registered company or LLP.
