Rationale

Reading is the foundation of all learning. However, many learners continue to struggle with
basic literacy skills, leading to poor academic performance and limited comprehension.
Project BASA aims to improve reading proficiency from Kindergarten to Grade 10 by
empowering teachers with effective reading strategies, providing learners with engaging
materials, and creating a conducive reading environment through a fully equipped reading
room.

II. Objectives
 To strengthen literacy and reading comprehension of learners from Kinder to Grade 10.
 To conduct school-based training for reading teachers by grade level.
 To provide instructional and learning materials that support literacy development.
 To set up a functional reading room with educational technology and reading resources.
 To incentivize and motivate learners to participate actively in reading programs.

III. Target Beneficiaries

 Pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 10
 Grade-level Reading Teachers
 School Literacy Coordinators

IV. Project Mechanics

1. 1. School-Based Training for Reading Teachers

 Grade-level training workshops will be held to develop teachers’ skills in delivering

reading instruction.
 Resource persons will be invited to train teachers in phonemic awareness, reading
comprehension, and intervention strategies.
 Training kits, food, and certificates will be provided.
 Attendance and active participation are required.

2. 2. Procurement and Distribution of Reading Materials and Supplies

 Learning and teaching materials such as storybooks, reading guides, activity sheets,
and basic school supplies will be distributed.
 Teachers may request grade-specific resources based on their classroom needs.

3. 3. Learner Incentives

 Quarterly recognition of students showing reading improvement or excellence.

 Awards include certificates, reading kits, and school supplies.
 A Reading Stars bulletin board will highlight achievers monthly.

4. 4. Reading Room Setup

 A classroom or school space will be converted into a Reading Hub, equipped with
TV, computer set, printer, tables, chairs, and bookshelves.
 The reading room will be open daily and supervised by a reading teacher schedule.
 Reading sessions will be integrated into class programs weekly.

5. 5. Monitoring and Evaluation

 A monitoring team (reading coordinator, teachers, school head) will track reading
progress monthly, document reading room usage, and gather feedback.
 A quarterly evaluation report will be submitted to the school administration.

6. 6. Sustainability

 Project BASA will be embedded into the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
 Trained teachers will mentor colleagues for continuity.
 External partnerships (e.g., LGUs, NGOs) will be pursued for long-term support.
