C. Target Strength for Mix Proportioning

f’ck = fck + 1.65 s

Where,
f’ck= target average compressive strength at 28 days.
fck= characteristics of compressive strength at 28 days, and
s = standard deviation
From Table 1, Standard deviation, s = 3.5 N/mm2
Therefore, target strength = 15+1.65 x 3.5 = 20.80 N/mm2

D. Selection of Water Cement Ratio

As per MORTH Table 1700-3, maximum water cement ratio = 0.50

Based on experience, adopt water-cement ratio as 0.50

0.50=0.50, hence O.K.

TANTIA CONSTRUCTION LTD. PIPRAKOTI-RAXAUL PROJECT NH -28A

Selection of Water Content

From Table 2, maximum water content = 186 lit. (For 25 to 50 mm slump range)

For 20 mm Aggregate

Estimated water content for 75 mm slump = 186+ (3/100) x 186 =191.58lit

As super plasticizer is used, the water content can be reduced up to 20 % and above.

Based on trials with super plasticizer water content reduction of 34.75 % has been achieved.

Hence, the arrived Water Content = 191.58x 0.652 = 124.91litre ≈ 125litre.

F. Calculation of Cement Content

Water-Cement ratio = 0.50

Cement Content = 125/0.50 = 250 Kg/m3

From MORTH Table 1700-3, minimum cement content = 250 Kg/m3

Adopted Cement Content = 250 Kg/m3, Hence O.K.

G. Proportion of Volume of Coarse Aggregate & Fine Aggregate

From Table 3, volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm size aggregate and fine aggregate(zone 2)for
water cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.62
In the present case water cement ratio is 0.50. Therefore, corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the
water-cement ratio of 0.50 = 0.62
Volume of fine aggregate content = 1-0.62 = 0.38.

H. Mix Calculations.

The mix calculations per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows:

a) Volume of concrete = 1 m3

b) Volume of Cement = Mass of Cement x 1

Specific Gravity of Cement 1000
= 250 x 1
3.15 1000

= 0.0794m3.
TANTIA CONSTRUCTION LTD. PIPRAKOTI-RAXAUL PROJECT NH -28A

c) Volume of Water = Mass of Water x 1

Specific Gravity of Water 1000
= 125 x 1
1 1000

= 0.125m3.

d) Volume of chemical admixture

(Superplasticizer) (@ 0.9 percent by
mass of cementitiousmaterial) = Mass of chemical admixture X 1
Specific gravity of admixture 1000
= 2.25 x 1
1.2 1000
= 0.0019 m3

e) Volume of all in aggregate = [a-(b+c+d)]

= 1-(0.0794 + 0.125 + 0.0019)
= 0.794m3.

f) Mass of coarse aggregate = e x Volume of coarse aggregate x specific gravity of

Coarse aggregate x 1000
= 0.794 x 0.62 x 2.747x 1000
= 1352.29 Kg ≈ 1352 Kg
20mm (60% = 811.2 Kg ≈ 811 Kg
10mm (40%) = 540.8 Kg ≈ 541 Kg

g) Mass of fine aggregate = e x Volume of fine aggregate x specific gravity of

fine aggregate x 1000
= 0.794 x 0.38 x 2.606 x 1000
= 786 Kg ≈ 786 Kg.
I. Mix Proportions per Cum
