I am very grateful for the opportunity of completing my internship in Total Energies. The
experience was very valuable for allowing me to apply my academic knowledge to the real
world activites and for gaining practical experience in the field of Transport Accountant . I
would like to thanks employees of Total Energies finance departments especially the chief
accountant and the n+1 Mr. Ashenafi and Mr. Yeshak respectively for their guidance and
mentorship. Their help was very essential on the time I spend there. And finally I would like to
epress my deepest gratitude to my family for their support through out this internship it was

Abstract
As I was a Finance intern in Total Energies, I worked on the Account Payable side. The finance
department have four divisions. These are the account payable, account receivable, treasury
control and credit control . My primary responsibility was working as a Transport Accountant
which is preparing a receipt or preparing the amount of money to be paid to a Transporter
company by considering the invoices which they have given us by deducting the shortages and
other expenses like abyssisnia dedctions ,OBC , etc. While every this jobs are by using a
Software called SAP. While I also work on entering a data of a transporter accountant on SAP.
My work wad was very essential for the company for the on time payment of a customer. This
report provides an overview of Total ENERGIES, enterprise established to provide or sell
different types of lubricants and fuel . It delves into the corporation's history, organizational
structure, vision, mission, values, and objectives. The report also explores the key
responsibilities and learnings of a FinanceIntern who worked at the company.
1.INTRODUCTION
1.1 Back ground of the organization
TotalEnergies is a French multinational integrated energy and petroleum company founded in
1924 and is one of the seven supermajor oil companies. Its businesses cover the entire oil and
gas chain, from crude oil and natural gas exploration and production to power generation,
transportation, refining, petroleum product marketing, and international crude oil and product
trading. TotalEnergies is also a large-scale chemicals manufacturer.
TotalEnergies has its head office in the Tour Total in La Défense district in Courbevoie, west
of Paris. The company is a component of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index. In
2023 TotalEnergies was ranked as the 21st largest company in the world.
The company was founded after World War I, when petrol was seen as essential in case of a
new war with Germany. The then-French President Raymond Poincaré rejected the idea of
forming a partnership with Royal Dutch Shell in favour of creating an entirely French oil
company. At Poincaré's behest, Col. Ernest Mercier, with the support of 90 banks and
companies, founded Total in 1924.
The company's headquarters is in the Tour Total in the La Défense district in Courbevoie, France,
near Paris. The building was originally constructed between 1983 and 1985 for Elf Aquitaine;
Total acquired the building after its merger with Elf in 2000.
TotalEnergies has industrial and commercial operations in about 120 countries on five
continents. That global presence gives a depth knowledge of end markets, the benefits of
economies of scale, and a competitive edge in meeting the varied needs of customers around
the world.
In Ethiopia TOTAL ENERGIES have been marketing products and services since 1950 through
network of service stations and to business customer’s . TotalEnergies Ethiopia has over
160 employees in Ethiopia.And they have only one branch located around Adey Ababa.
1.2Vision,Mission,Values and Objectives of the
Organization
1.2.1 VISION
To lead the market and the industry and set an example for energy companies by working with
partners and consumers to have a good value through a safely operations and better product
quality.

The mission of the company: Is to be a leading petroleum company with a highest product
quality and excellent services for a customer.

The objectives of the corporation are as follows:
. Is to work with safety and having no accident.
. Is to be the world leading petroleum company.
. Is to work with loans and credits as possible not using the company’s money.
. Is not buy any asset like trucks and not to work with their Owen assets.
2 Department of the company
2.1 Organizatonal structure and work flow
The corporation in the finance department have four division Accounts payable, Accounts
rescivable,Treasuery control and Credit control. The company structure in the finance
department have one four N+1 ,one chief accountant and a ge And every paper or
payments are signed by N+1, choief accountant and by the general manager. And the company
have over 160 employees.
I worked in Total Energies in the finance department as a transport accountant. The finance
department controls every cash envolvement, credits and treasuerys. As a transport accountant
I was responsible for every transport payment paid to a customer and record them as a payable
I the software they use (SAP). Which my work was very essential for customer satisfaction for
paying them on time.
The structure of Total energies as a whole is listed bellow.

2.2 Tasks and responsibilities
My major responsibilities in a Finance department as a Transport accountant intern are as
follows :
1.Recording the invoiuces which are given by the customers in to SAP .
2.I was responsible for preparing an excel or a receipt given to a customer. And will be signed
by N+1 , Chief accountant and by the general manager.
3.And I was also responsible for preparing a check with an assistant or transferring money.
1. Recording the invoiuces
Before doing any tasks the secretaries will give me an invoices from customers which holdes a
payment which they will be paid. And every payment will be paid every Thursday and Friday.
These payments will only be paid fully if the customers don’t have any advance
payments,shortages,Abyssinia deduction,obc and purchase of lubricants. And using SAP I will
record every invoices and their amount to be visible for the other employee’s .
Shortage : This occurs when there is a loss(shortage) on the fuel which was transported by the
trucks.
Abyssinia deduction: when a truck use a station of total energies for filling up of a fuel will later
be deducted from the service they give.
OBC: This is a sdeduction for giving them a GBS truck service.
Advance payment: theis service is given to a customer giving them an advance payments for
buying a truck in the future it will be deducted.
Purchase of lubricants : when a customer buys a lubricant from a station of total energies it will
be deducted in the future payments.
2.Preparing an excel or a receipt
After rccording the invoices I will syart preparing every payments of a customer using an excel
which later will be signed by the N+1 , Chief accountant and by the general manager.
3.preparing a check or transfering
After preparing a recipt and are signed I will start preparing a check for payment or send a
receipt to treasuery departments for a transfer.
While doing these tasks the invoices must be given to the transport accountant at Monday early
and the papers(recite) must be signed in Wednesday after noon and check must be printed
Thursday morning and printed and Thursday afternoon and Friday is a payment day.
2.3Key learning and skills Develop
In my internship in Total Energies it provided me with an opportunity to learn and develop my
skills in finance and learn how they perform many tasks with my colleagues. And gain some
knowledge about the software(SAP) which is a software which is used for recording different
entries and which is very usefull for the employees to even do their work on home. And learn
how can we classify every tasks so there can not be a crime . And every person is responsible or
accountant for the work he is done. As a Transport accountant I have learned many skills like I
am a beteer user of an excel and SAP. And learn how to easily communicate with colleagues
and to communicate with them. I have learned the protocol and how to arrive on time . I
became familiar with the company’s policies and procedures, understanding their importance in
ensuring compliance and consistency . I developed problem-solving and decision-making skills
as I encountered various finance challenge and learned how to address them effectively..The
main thing I gained is how I can perform or do tasks with interactions with others.
2.4Evaluation of internship experience
In internship at Total Energies provided me with a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on
experience in financial aspects. The internship provided valuable practical experience in
finance , allowing me to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. I was able to
develop many essential skills The internship gave me some knowledge of the company’s
operations and culture . While the experience was generally was very posetive , there were a few
areas where I believe improvements could be made. Due to my internship status, which was few
days I was unable to take on more challenging tsks which could have been a good experience.
2.5 Summary
As an intern I was assigned in TotalEnergies company for the purpose of acquiring some
financial skills by using a primary and a secondary data. I was able to do a one person’s full job
because their was a vacancy of a Transport accountant.
2.6 Conclusion
I believe this internship program was a good opportunity to achieve the purpose of internship
program. And I can say I have achieved some of my goals. In addition I was able also to acquire
various skills such as communication skill ,interpersonal skills and analytical skills.
