Leaning Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students
must be able to:
Determine the center and radius of a
circle given its standard form.
Investigate the standard and general
form of equation of the circle.
Illustrate the center-radius and general
form of the equation of a circle.
01 Circle
(Standard Form)
From the figure, it shows the graph of the
circle O that passes through point A(8,0) and
centered at the origin.
1. How far is point A from the
center of the circle?
𝒅= 𝒙𝟐 − 𝒙𝟏 𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 − 𝒚𝟏 𝟐
2. Does the circle pass through (0,
8), (-8, 0), and (0, -8)? Why?
Yes, because they have all the same
distances
3. What is the relation of the
DISTANCE of point A from the
center of the circle?
Radius
CIRCLE
Center-Radius Form: (𝒙 − 𝒉)𝟐 +(𝒚 − 𝒌)𝟐 = 𝒓𝟐
❑ (h, k) is the point of the center of the circle wherein h is
the x-coordinate of the center point and k is the y-

Transform 𝑦 2 + 4𝑥 − 20 − 2𝑦 = −𝑥 2 into its
standard form
❑ First, arrange the equation in a full general form.
𝑦 2 + 4𝑥 − 20 − 2𝑦 = −𝑥 2
𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 4𝑥 − 2𝑦 − 20 = 0
❑ Use the division of -2 to find the (h,k).

Find the standard equation of the given;

coordinate she need to go for
evacuation, is it (7,-10) or (-2,-12)?
3. What is the equation of the

APPLICATION
A bank of lights is arranged over a stage. Each light
illuminates a circular area on the stage. A coordinate
