Literary Analysis

The theme of Romeo and Juliet can be said to handle three themes:

The Hatred: the confrontation between the Capulets and the Montagues
frames the extraordinary relationship between Romeo and Juliet.
Love: the passion that lovers have is overflowing and
frenetic, can be observed in the short period of six days where
they fall in love, get married, have their wedding night, and tragedy strikes.
The Tragedy: the love between Romeo and Juliet is tragic from the beginning
when they were forced to meet secretly and as a mockery of the
the fate of these two, the failed plan with a fatal outcome.

Reference to the environment of the work

The action of Romeo and Juliet only takes place in the Italian cities of Verona and
Mantua, From the city of Verona, the common sites of the families are known.
faced like the public square, some streets and the cemetery. The streets and
the square serves as the stage for the confrontations between Montescos and
Capulets, although the aggression of Tybalt against can also be mentioned.
Romeo in the Capulet house.

Perhaps the most important space is in the Capulet house; the garden that leads to
the window of Julieta's room, where the secret meetings take place
more transcendent among lovers, besides there they consummate their night of
weddings. Friar Laurence's cell denotes the desire for the union of Romeo with
Julieta in her frantic love, regardless of the place or the situation.

Mantua, the city of exile for Romeo, appears as a gloomy figure and
sad, perhaps due to the separation from his beloved, the pharmacist's shop presents itself
with a gloomy atmosphere including the emaciated owner, as a prelude to
love suicide of Romeo.

Finally, the cemetery is the place of conclusion where the tragic fate of the
the couple takes place, but it also symbolizes the burial of the young,
also the burial of hate among families.

According to the argument, the theme and some extractions from the work are located in the
15th century in its final decades, but it is imprecise if taken into account the
origin of the legend and for this reason historical time cannot be completely
defined.
