I. course_description
The course is designed to help the pastor and the layperson have a criterion for evaluating various
psychological approaches in light of a Christian worldview. The student will get to know
the theoretical bases and assumptions of these approaches, in order to reach their own
counseling philosophy and choose which techniques to use in those he advises. The course provides a
introduction to some mental/emotional disorders of which the student is
they can present in their ministry, and it will provide an opportunity to practice counseling techniques
and work on case studies. Attention will be given to various types of counseling needs in
the church, as marital/pre-marital, crisis, grief, and damaged emotions, and is
they will present some tools to deal with these.
II. JUSTIFICATION
Psychology is a well-respected field in today's society. The saying, 'The psychologist
medium...carries a lot of weight in people's criteria. The pastors, in turn, have as
a significant area of your work, advising according to biblical principles. How can
the study of psychology informs the pastor-counselor in his work of helping the
people with emotional difficulties? And how can the Bible complement or correct,
the theories and techniques of modern psychology? The pastor has no choice about whether to
to advise or not, but if it is going to be effective, you must be aware of key elements of
counseling and being intentional in the way you advise. This course will examine the
relationship between psychology and theology, so that the pastor/counselor can
develop their own informed advising philosophy. It will also help the student to
familiarize yourself with various mental/emotional disorders that may arise in the
course of their work.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION OF THE TEACHER:


The course promotes autonomous learning, the habit of reading, self-discipline, the
permanent learning, and the application of the material to their work environment. The course is
focus on the student, not on the teacher.

III. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge of the key points of three psychological perspectives.

in their work according to their own Christian worldview.
Develop a personal counseling philosophy in relation to your beliefs and the environment.

IV. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS


Timely attendance to the development of academic activities. The absences
allowed are only 30% of the total hours taught. Entry to the classroom

In groups of three, the students will work based on one of the chapters of After The
Masks (Wayne Oates, 1989), which is on reserve in the library. Each group will examine.

affect the relationship with others in the church and with the pastor himself. A presentation of the group
to the class (15-20 minutes) must include the following:
1. A description of the disorder and its symptoms
2. How this disorder affects its environment (family, church, pastor)
3. Suggestions and demonstrations to advise on a case of this disorder

The presentation can use PowerPoint, verbal explanation of the highlighted points,
demonstration of techniques for advising (type - 'role-playing') or other creative methods
that the group finds appropriate. Each member of the group must participate in the presentation.
