History of Distributed Systems

This document summarizes the history and key concepts of distributed systems. It explains that distributed systems are collections of computers connected through a network where each computer has its own hardware and software components. It explores the development of distributed systems alongside high-speed local area networks in the 1970s and how they have become more common with personal computers and servers. It also describes the client-server strategy as a common model of distributed systems.

INTRODUCTION

The following document will contextualize the terms and history of distributed systems.
for your better understanding.

Distributed systems are collections of physically separated computers where they are
connected by a communication network, each computer has its own components of
hardware and software where the programmer sees it as a system.

Distributed Computing refers to any event in which a system is managed in

a network of computers and tries to describe the trends towards distributed functionality:
distributed systems, distributed processing, distributed databases and any other
distributed computational term. We can then say that Computing

The first characterizations of a Distributed System were made by Enslow, as early as 1978.

high speed in the early 1970s. This has resulted in a greater shift towards the
distributed systems in the availability of personal computers workstations and
computers or servers.

The trend of using distributed systems has accelerated due to the development of software for
the systems themselves, designed to support software development for applications
distributed with the functions of coordinating activities and sharing system resources
hardware, software, and data.

The implementation of these systems involves various hardware platforms, from a

small local area network workgroup up to the internet, where the local area network connection
and extensive areas are interconnected and link millions of devices.

When we talk about capacity, we take into account that distributed systems vary from
computing capacity to groups of users, almost all systems including banking are covered

clients.

A client makes requests to another program, the server, which responds to it.

Advantages:
One of the advantages of distributed systems is cost-effectiveness, as it is much cheaper,

Joint work. For example: in an assembly factory, the robots have their

Disadvantages:
The main problem is the software, it is the design, implementation, and use of the software.
distributed, as it presents numerous inconveniences where questions arise such as:
What type of OS, programming language, and applications are suitable for this system?
Conclusions:

Distributed systems encompass a considerable number of aspects, which is why their

development involves a lot of complexity.

It is also noticeable that many technologies are in constant development and maturation, which
