Exponential Function

The document describes the applications of exponential functions in biology, medicine, economics, and other disciplines. Exponential functions are used to model population growth, the decay of radioactive substances, the decrease of medications in the body, and the calculation of compound interest. They are also applied to processes such as cellular mitosis, the growth of bacterial colonies, and the calculation of capital deposited in the bank over time.

Applications of the exponential function in biology

medicine and economics

The appearance of exponential functions arises naturally when studying

various phenomena related to population growth and decline
humans, with colonies of bacteria, with radioactive substances and with many others
processes linked to economics, medicine, chemistry, and other disciplines.

It applies to chemistry and physics. In some radioactive elements, they are of such nature.
that its quantity decreases over time, the exponential law is fulfilled and it is said
that the element decreases or declines.

In medicine, many drugs are used for the human body, in a way
that the present quantity follows an exponential law of decrease.
In Financial Mathematics (Management), for the calculation of compound interest, we
exponential functions are employed. For example: let's assume that there is a certain
initial amount of money P0 that is placed at an annual interest rate of i%. At the end of the first
year will have the initial capital plus what has been earned from interest P0i, if this process is
continues for n years, the expression obtained is given by: P= P0 (1+i)n, where P is
the final capital if the interest accumulates over a period of time, P0 is the capital
initial, i is the interest rate (annual, monthly, daily) and n is the time period (year,
months, days, etc.

From the perspective of the mathematics of a fact or phenomenon in the real world, the
exponential equations are used from population size to phenomena
physical quantities such as acceleration, speed, and density. The objective of the model is to understand

broadly the phenomenon and perhaps predict its behavior in the future. They are used similarly
to give the growth of things such as: the growth of a certain population, the
growth of people infected with HIV (AIDS), or the decrease of a burden of the
charging of a capacitor, floods of agricultural stores, half-life of a
radioactive substance, atomization decay, etc. The exponential equations are defined
like: f(x) = a*. It has been used to obtain the area, the volume, of bodies
geometric, it is also used in the sizing of containers for liquid products
(milk, water) and granular products such as (rice, detergent, powdered milk) etc. And
they solve development and decomposition problems

MEDICINE

It refers to all those mathematical methods and tools that can be

used in the analysis or solution of problems belonging to the area of sciences of
health or medicine. Many mathematical methods have proven effective in the
study of health problems, leading to the progressive implementation of the
medical mathematics. The definition is not absolutely strict, since, in principle,
any part of mathematics could be used in health problems; however,
a possible difference is that the development of mathematics is aimed "towards health"
that is, towards the field of the health-disease process. And, to a lesser extent, "towards
inside, that is, towards the development of mathematics itself. Applied mathematics is
frequently used in different areas of medicine. Areas of mathematics with
frequent applications in medicine:

Calculation specifically the algorithm is applied to epidemiology and the logarithm to the
immunology.

Statistics, in biostatistics.

Analysis of variance, or calculation of deviations from the mean in measurements

from the clinic.

Stochastic process is applied to echocardiography and electroencephalography, as well as to

other biomedical methods.

from ingested, it is modeled according to the equation:

5. y = 100x5 - 0.5t, t ≥ 0 After how many hours after taking the medication does it remain?
20 milligrams in the body? How many milligrams of medication remain in the
organism after 4 hours of ingestion? Exponential functions are those that
they have more presence in observable phenomena, which is why there is diversity of
situations whose study involves the formulation of exponential equations or
logarithmic.
