Configure iLO 2 On HP ProLiant DL380 G6

This document describes how to configure iLO 2 on an HP ProLiant DL380 G6 server. iLO allows for remote management of a server even when it is powered off through a separate network interface. The document explains how to assign network parameters to iLO, create a user, adjust global settings, and access the iLO web interface to view server information and use advanced features such as KVM and virtual media with a license.

Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) is a technology incorporated into some Hewlett-Packard ProLiant servers that
allows you to configure, update, and use devices remotely, even if they are turned off.
Use a separate network interface that can be configured at machine startup.

ILO has the following characteristics:

o Fully operational during a shutdown and restart of the server, as it does not depend on power.
host server.
o It does not depend on the host's processor for operation and does not use any processing cycles of the
host processor
o Independent of the server hardware. Any problem that arises with the server hardware,
find isolated from the iLO processor.
o Available for out-of-band management without the assistance of the operating system.

For the configuration, I will use the HP Lights-Out Online configuration utility, a tool from HP.
for Windows environments, although it can be done directly from the server's BIOS.

The first step is to assign the network parameters of the iLO:

We create a user to log in to the interface.

We adjusted the global configuration to our needs.

Once configured, we can access it through its web interface from a remote client, using only https.
against his IP.

On the main page, we can see some info about the server and some action buttons.

To be able to use advanced options like KVM or virtual media, we must enable them through a
license. A free 30-day license can be downloaded from the HP support website.
Once activated, we can access advanced options such as KVM.

From the KVM we can perform different actions such as powering off, turning on, and restarting the server live.
from the remote console.
Finally, we have a Windows RDP-style options bar in the remote console from which we can
perform different actions on the server.
