Getting Started – Counselors / Instructors

Dear Instructors, Counselors, Staff:

The following

WHO SHOULD APPLY: Please refer high school students, adult students, or graduates of any training
program (ETC or other) that:
• Have employable skills.
• Have completed a training program or module or have attained at
least 80% of the program competencies.
• Are “work ready” and have employable skills for at least entry level positions.
• Are able to work at least 20/hrs per week.
• Have a good attitude, willingness to work hard, able to follow instructions and accept
constructive criticism.
APPLICATION & ENROLLMENT PROCESS (Overview):
1) Counselor or Instructor should call the Internship Coordinator (386-3602) to discuss client.
2) Counselors / instructors / or agency staff submit recommendation forms to internship
coordinator.
3) Internship coordinator schedules a meeting with the client / potential intern.
4) Counselor or agency staff submit ETC Agency Authorization Form – Internship program.
a. Indicate paid or unpaid tuition
5) Student submits application and survey to internship coordinator.
NOTE: HS credit is determined by the HS principal and HS registrar.
6) ETC staff contact client / Intern for registration process
* Applicants will also be interviewed by employers for final selection & complete projects.
PAID vs. UNPAID: Although Internships are typically unpaid, we are encouraging the referring agencies to
pay the PAID internship tuition rate, allowing for the intern to receive a $600 stipend in recognition of the
students work. A limited number of employers are also willing to offer paid work
experiences. We are advising students to be prepared for the traditional unpaid internship
and hope for the best.
DURATION: Minimum of 160 work hours within 8 weeks. Monthly extensions available.
