Dear Internship Applicant:
We are pleased to hear of your interest in our Work Experience / Internship program at the Employment
Training Center. Work experience programs, including internships, are supervised work experiences
designed for recent program completers to test their new skills, learn additional skills, gain experience
for their resume, and experience a trade or company before making a career decision. Internships are
typically unpaid experiences leading to job placement upon completion.
HOW TO APPLY:
* First, you must be recommended by an instructor, counselor, or agency attesting to your readiness for a
work environment and internship experience.
* Submit the following items to the Career & Workforce Development Office:
• Work experience application / survey
• Information Release Form
• Copy of your resume
• Liability Waiver Form
• Course grades, class evaluations, and competency reports
APPLICATION & ENROLLMENT PROCESS (Overview):
* Students are referred by instructors and / or counselors then apply for the program
* Applications and evaluation forms will be given to applicants.
* Selection will be based on evaluations by instructors & counselors, student performance, assessment
results, grades, attendance, competencies AND availability of a suitable worksite.
* Students will be “assessed” for potential placement with an appropriate worksite match.
* Applicants will also be interviewed by employers for final selection at their internship site.
* Accepted students must enroll in ETC and be added to the internship course.
PAID vs. UNPAID: Although Internships are typically unpaid, we are encouraging the referring
agencies to pay the PAID internship tuition rate, allowing for the intern to receive a $600 stipend. A
limited number of employers are also willing to offer paid work experiences. We are advising students
to be prepared for the traditional unpaid internship and hope for the best. Remember, the primary
purpose is to learn and gain essential work skills.
REQUIREMENTS: Students must
1) complete 160 internship hours within an 8-week period,
2) turn in weekly time sheets, weekly evaluations,
3) complete occasional assignments including:
a. Career researching projects
b. Job readiness workshops & sessions
c. Complete a resume
d. Complete sample job applications
e. Practice interviewing skills
f. Other assignments may be added as needed
