1.Do u had IGG System?yes

So tell what all checks,alarms,trips u do in engine room related to IGG before arrival. Now u tell all
things toc check on deck. Cross question on emergency trip. I told at manifold port and stbd side,
near pump room(this automatically came from my mouth, however i dont know), ccr. Then he
verified that 4 emergency stop! I smelled something fishy from his voice. I justified my answer by
sayin on my 2 ships only 3 but one ship had also at pump room

2. Safety equipment survey specifically in engine room.

I mentioned emergency generator also. After telling all things he asked what u check on Auxiliary
engine. I told fo leak off alarm, sump low level alarm, lo low pressure trip, all generator taken to be
on load whether

working fine or not.

3. Fo overflow during bunker. I confirmed by saying fuel oil is already on deck. Then he told 3rd engr
and motorman on manifold, they asked barge to stop. Bunkering is already stopped. Now your
action(he did not specify my rank) .I assumed myself as 2nd engineer. I told many Sopep equipment,
reason of overflow, overflow tank transfer bla bla. Clean up party, announcement in accomodation
for extra man power needed . I did not want to stop so i dive into reason and overflow tank transfer
alarms bla bla, ,. Then he stopped and asked u have sailed on many chemical tankers and u connect
wilden pump to slop tank . Then i repeated “sir as i mentioned wilden pump earlier i will start wilden
pump and start transfering😊 he told me no , u dont mention. I put my face exoression in sorrow
mode

4. Shell expansion plan- i explained all keel plate, garboard sheer starke, a b c d lettering , 1 ,2,
3...numbering, any openings, watertight doors. Detailed view. He was asking what else. U only told
zbout plates. Then again i repeated opening , doors, db tank plugs , sea chest gratings, overboard
valves locations, strenthening members

Then moved to next questions


5. Tell life boat davit safety- i told two limit switch, deadman handle, safety harbour pin. I did not
want to tell others as mentioned in ashish sehgal and ankur sharma notes. Then immediately he
asked where limit switch located. I toldOn both arms of davit, microswitch is located, at approx 10-
15 cm distance it will cut off power of motor. Value i could not recall exactly as i read somewhere in
inch. So i guessed it will be around 10-15cm and told him. Then if limit swithch wont
work,mechanical stopper will be there with thick rubber cushion. I told all these as my policy was to
continue speaking whatever i know

Last ques- Explain GZ Curve- i told two Gz curve ,statical stabikity and Gz cross curve of stability.
However whenever we talk about gz curver usually it is curve of statical stability. I started explaining
it. As soon as reached point of conflexture he understood that i know properly. So oral finished.

I think one more question. Oral was longer.

from air bottle then other actions.

3) While blowing through AE water coming from all units. Actions? Told him about starting air line
water but don’t know what he was expecting.

4) how to test Boiler safety valves. Told about popping test and accumulation pressure test.
Accepted the answer.

5) How to fabricate FW pipe line from older one.

Internal asked about Blowthrough in details as I couldn’t answer that satisfactory.

Type of engine you have done.

1. While main engine decarb you have to take liner calibration, where you will take?

( I started answering him from the positions where we will take, he said this the class 4 answers,
then he said you have to calibrate the tool 1st, then he asked how to calibrate? Have you done tell
me yes or no, i said no)
2. You are doing the crankcase inspection of the AE, how will you know the bearings are in place or
not?

( I said by checking the nip and crush with locating lugs, then he said how will you check, you are not
opening the bearings, you are doing only crankcase inspection, then I said bearing play, clearances
and atlast told about the lube oil condition, then he didn’t say anything and jumped to the next
question)

3. You are on the round of E/R, you have seen the unit #3 starting air valve is red hot, what will your
1st action?

( I told him 1st we will close the main air bottle valve which is going for the starting air, then he said
one more thing is there, i couldn’t recall at that time then he said you have to drain the starting air
line)

4. A new TME joined, how will you instruct him to do the pump greasing?

( I started with the PPE and make the grease gun ready and there will be grease nipple and there will
a drain plug on the other side we will open that plug, then we start pumping the grease, the old
grease will come out of the drain, when the fresh grease start coming we will close the drain then
pump one more time and remove the nipple correction, and at 1st I mentioned that we can do this
on the running pump, then he become happy and said till now this the only question you have
answered properly)

5. You get 1 hr notice from the bridge, how will you start preparing, safety point of view?

( I started with the propeller clearance, then i go directly for the turning gear and turning the engine,
then again stopped me and said you are again missing one major point, suddenly i remember and
told him that we will open 1st indicator cocks, then he said yes, why are you not mentioning the
basic points, what happened? Then i said sir this is my last attempt, I am nervous, then he said relax
cool down)

6. Tell me how will you do fuel injector pressure testing?


( I Started from the basic safeties, then start telling him the procedure, then he again stopped me,
