1. What is Environmental Science?
In summary, environmental science can be viewed as an interdisciplinary field of study that includes
biology, chemistry, geology, and social science as a means of developing an understanding of natural
systems on Earth and human changes to those systems. Environmental science studies the physical
environment of the Earth and attempts to develop solutions to environmental problems for example:
pollution environmental services, climate change, depletion of resources. One thing we always
emphasize in class is that environmental science is much more than developing a science that describes
environmental process, but it also serves as a means to promoting sustainability.
2. Environmental Problems
The article explores the environmental problems our planet faces today, including global warming, loss
of biodiversity, water scarcity, and air pollution. The article highlights that these problems continue to
worsen as a result of human activity including deforestation, industrialization, and over-extraction of
natural resources. The article concludes that global collaboration, advancements in technology, policy
and behavioral changes, and global urgency are required to tackle many of these problems.
