What is Ramadan

Ramadan is the 9th month of the

Islamic Calender

Fasting in Ramadan is one of the five

Pillars of Islam

Meaning Of Ramadam
Ramadan comes from the word
“Ramaḍa”which means “Extreme heat”

The Prophet (SAW)

Said: “Do not fast until

you see the new moon,
and do not stop fasting

(Bukhari, Muslim).
“O Allah, let the crescent moon appear over us
with security and Iman; with peace and Islam;
and with ability, for us to practice such actions
which you love. (O Moon) your creator and my
creator is Allah.”
Fasting

Meaning of Fast
Fasting literally means to “Refrain
from something”

No eating and drinking

from dawn until dusk

If you keep a fast, then you must make the

intention of fasting at night or before Fajr. Intention
means to decide to do something.

All the past sins will be forgiven.

Fasting is the most beloved deed to Allah, and so the

reward of fasting is more than any other good deed.

Those who complete the compulsory fats of Ramadan, along

with some other voluntary fasts, will enter Jannah through a
special gate called “Ar Rayyan”. This gate is specially for those
who fast, no one else will enter through it.

Every action of ours is be multiplied, a good action by ten

times, up to 700 times. Allah says: “With the exception of
fasting, which belongs to Me, and I reward it accordingly.”

Fasting mentioned in the Quran

َ ۟ َ ٓ
‫ٱﻟﺼ َﻴﺎ ُم َﻛ َﻤﺎ‬
‫ِﺐ َﻋﻠ ْﻴﻜُ ُﻢ ﱢ‬ َ ‫َاﻣ ُﻨﻮا ُﻛﺘ‬ َ ‫ﻳَ ٰـﺄﻳﱡ َﻬﺎ ٱﻟﺬ‬

O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you—as it
was for those before you1—so perhaps you will
become mindful ˹of Allah˺.
Meaning of Taqwa
Being careful because you
remember that Allah is
always watching
The fasting person trains himself to
remember that Allah is always watching
him, so he gives up the things that he
desires even though he is able to take
them. This is called Taqwa while fasting.

The Messenger of Allah said: 'There has come to you Ramadan,

a blessed month, which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has
enjoined you to fast. In it the gates of heavens are opened
and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained
up. In it Allah has a night which is better than a thousand
months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed
deprived.
{Sunan an-Nasa'i 2106}

The Messenger of Allah said: “Indeed Allah has freed slaves (from
Hell) every day and night. Every slave from them has an accepted
supplication.”
[Musand Ahmad: 7450]

Fasting and the Quran will intercede for the servant on the Day
of Judgement.

The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Whoever established prayers on the

night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from
Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever
fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping
for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be
forgiven."

Don’t let Ramadan End Without Being Forgiven!

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said: “…May his nose be
soiled in dust! (i.e. may he be humiliated) – the man
upon whom Ramadan enters, and then ends before he
is forgiven!”
(Tirmidhī 3545)

Iftar is the name of the meal eaten (Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi)

Taraweeh

Taraweeh
Linguistically

The word “Taraweeh” is derived from the root word

“Rauh” or “Raha” which basically means to take a
rest.

Taraweeh refers to the short period of rest between

every four units of the prayer.

Taraweeh Prayer is not compulsory, however, by

praying this extra prayer, you earn a lot of rewards!

Hadiths on Taraweeh (Praying in the night of Ramadan)

Abu Dharr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and

blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, whoever stands for
prayer in Ramadan with the Imam until he is finished, it
will be recorded as if he prayed the entire night.”

The Messenger of Allah said: Whoever spends the

nights of Ramadan in prayer (Qiyam) out of faith and
in the hope of reward, he will be forgiven his previous
sins

We do not know which night it is exactly, that is why we should worship Allah in
all last ten nights so that we do not miss this amazing opportunity that Allah
has given us. Muslims increase their worship in the last ten days and try to stay
awake entire night. Most of them pray many extra Salah, read Quran and
make lots of du’aa.
