Section B:

Basic system requirements:

Refer to the minimum hardware and software specifications needed for a program

Examples of it:
Operating System: The version of the OS needed (Windows 10).
Processor (CPU): The minimum type and speed of the CPU required.
Memory (RAM): The minimum amount of RAM needed for the software to operate.
Graphics Card (GPU): Any specific graphics capabilities required, especially for games and
graphic-intensive applications.
Storage: The amount of hard drive or SSD space needed to install and run the software

RAM/ROM:
RAM- Random access memory
 RAM is a temporary data storage
 Can be accessed quickly
 Gives application a place to store and access data on a short-term basis.
 The information is lost if the power supply is turned off

ROM- Read only memory

 Can only be read
 Contains non-volatile data
 ROM is a permanent data storage

We want more of RAM because it makes your computer work faster

RAM is more expensive

4G and 5G:
4G
 Mobile telecommunications technology that provides high-speed internet access for
mobile devices.
 It is designed to improve upon previous generations (like 3G) in terms of speed,
capacity, and efficiency.
5G
 Offers faster speeds, low latency and higher capacity
 With 5G you can enjoy better online gaming, steaming and browsing experience.
 5G smartphone is a smartphone that can connect to and use the 5G network, which
is the latest generation of wireless technology

Compatibility- the suitability of two or more devices and the software work together
without conflict.

Dedicated devices:
a company that is designed to perform a single task or set of tasks.
Examples of it:
ATMs
GPS
Playsations

Internet and Ethernet:

Internet is a wide area network (WAN) and a broad global network linking a broad number
of devices worldwide.
Ethernet is a network serving a small geographic region

Why will you choose a Wi-Fi connection and not an Ethernet connection?
Explain.
 A Wi-Fi connection transmits data via wireless signals, while an Ethernet connection
transmits data over cables.
 The Wi-Fi connects millions of devices worldwide while Ethernet is a local area
network.

Advantages and disadvantages of the use of wireless technology:

Advantages
 Does not require any wires or cables
 Faster and easier compared to a wired network

Disadvantages
 Big issue while using wireless networks.
 Usually inexpensive, cost of installation is very high

Network types:
LAN- LAN is a network contained within a small geographic area, usually within the same
building.
WLAN- A WLAN is a LAN that is connected wirelessly
HUB -Hubs are commonly used to connect segments of a LAN.

What is the NIC in a LAN network?

A network interface card (NIC) is a device that allows a computer to communicate with other
computers on a local area network (LAN) or the internet.

HDMI - High-Definition Multimedia Interface

 The HDMI ports are found on the video card or motherboard at the back of the
computer.

Firewall:
 A firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and
outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.
 A firewall establishes a barrier between a trusted network and an untrusted network,
such as the Internet.

TWO things that you can do to protect your privacy:

 Password protect your devices
 Sign-out of Accounts

Ergonomics:
Ergonomics is the study and design of products that reduce stress and improve comfort to
the user, helping increase the users' productivity.

Two red flags of a hoax e-mail message:

 Poor spelling and grammar
 Sense of urgency to make an immediate payment.

DDOS- Cybercrime:
A type of cybercrime that involves overwhelming a target—such as a server, network, or
website—with a flood of traffic, rendering it unable to respond to legitimate requests.

Why is there a triangle?

 The triangle shows that the numbers are entered as text.
 If it is removed the zero at the beginning of the number will not show.

Important information:
 A pie graph will be best suited for the percentage
 Gridlines are lines that appear on the screen to help you align text and objects in a
document. They are not printed, but they can be useful for positioning elements
precisely.
 Graphs and sorting is a feauture in a spreadsheeet that makes it suitable for data
analysis.
 Rounddown-will round the nearest number chosen
 Roundup – will round to the nearest whole number

Social media:
Social media is a term that refers to various forms of electronic communication that
enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

Example of social media: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook

Disadvantages: Cyberbullying
Advantages: connect with friends

Zapper:
 When a customer wants to make a payment using Zapper, they simply scan the QR
code
 The payment is then processed instantly, and the customer receives a confirmation
of payment on their phone.

3D printing:
 A 3D printer can be used to offer personalised services and experiences for the
guests, such as gifts

 A 3D printer can be used to print spare parts and tools this can help with
maintenance and repair issues, as well as reduce waste and environmental
impact.
Laptop vs desktop:

DESKTOP LAPTOP

to function completely

Powered via mains through connected Uses batteries or AC Power that can be recharged, operates
sockets on main power as well

Size is huge and heavy Small size

There are multiple internal hard disks Internal hard disks are limited

Fixed in one place Portable

External keyboard and mouse is connected Have internal mouse and keyboard, but is also compatible
with external keyboard and mouse

Processor is more powerful Processor for Gaming Laptops are pretty powerful, others not
so much

Digital cameras:
A digital camera is an electronic device that captures and stores photographs in a digital
format.
Two important things when working with a digital camera:
• Low resolution: resolution is the amount of detail that a camera can
capture. In digital cameras, resolution is measured in megapixels.
• The lens aperture is the maximum amount that the lens can open. The
wider it opens, the more light it can take in, which means that you need
less light to take a good picture.
Managing the computer system:
Disc cleanup- will help to free up space on a computer’s hardware.
Disk Cleanup helps users remove unnecessary files on the computer that may be taking up
space on the hard drive.
Disk Defragmenter is a utility offered in Microsoft Windows that rearranges files on a disk to
occupy continuous storage space.

Section C:
Being safe when using the internet & online banking/shopping:
 Change your password regularly
 Refrain from using public computers or Wi-Fi when banking online
 Check your bank statement regularly.
 Use licensed anti-virus software.
 Disconnect your Internet when not using it.

Mobile internet:
Mobile internet access devices are devices that can be carried around and connect
to the internet wirelessly

Mobile Internet access devices that you can use?

 Smartphones
 tablets
 laptops

Portable and non-portable devices:

Portable drives are smaller and are usually powered directly off the USB port to which they
are connected.
Non-portable drives are bigger and are usually separately powered.
