neighbourhood to make the people aware about the usage of
mobile phone in their life (at least in a day) and about their
consequences.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
This project is based on a survey conducted by class XI students on the
topic “Usage of gadgets in a day”. Responsible gadget usage is a universal
struggle. We come across various gadgets in our daily lives. Consequently,
we depend on them almost entirely. Electronic gadgets are of various types
in a way that makes them accessible and useful. Some of the gadgets we
cannot even imagine being without are laptops, smartphones, microwaves,
televisions, etc. It has influenced us in many ways, and we can’t even think
without gadgets in our daily lives. This form of dependency can lead to
excessive usage.
The aim of this project is to spread orderly awareness on this issue. Our
questions aim to dissect the side effects involved and each individual's
time management and gadget utilization. The survey proposed questions
based on the impact of excessive gadget usage and awareness on its side
effects. The side effects ranging from harmful to unproductivity inducing.
Through spreading the message of the hold this seemingly harmless
uprising phenomenon has on us, we aim to help everyone be aware of the
long lasting effects irresponsible gadget usage creates.
INTRODUCTION
In this fast-moving world, Gadgets play an essential role in our day-to-day
lives. From work to entertainment, we depend on gadgets and the internet
to make our lives easier.gadgets make our lives more accessible and
innovative but it also makes us more dependent.
However, with the increase in dependence on gadgets, we must be mindful
of our dependency on gadgets. Excessive gadget usage of gadgets may
deprive our mental as well as physical health. Numerous side effects such
as sleep disorders, poor posture and eye strain. Gadgets also effect your
relationship with friends and family.
This survey aims to find the causes and consequences of gadgets.it
provides suggestions and opinions to reduce screen time in our daily life.

A survey was conducted which consisted of 13 questions and a number of
52 participants took part in answering it.

The responses to the questionnaire are as shown:

Our questionnaire was distributed among our friends and family of different ages and
working professionals. The response proves that most of the respondents are of the
age between 10 to 20 years are the top contributors.

More than 90% of the people that attended the survey are students.Rest of them are
college students, working professionals and people who are in other role plays.

We studied a group of 52 individuals whose total usage of mobile phones for 3-4 hours
is 53.8% per day. while the least of the people using it for more than 5 hours is 28.8%
per day and the rest use it for 1-2 hours is 17.3% per day. This means people use their
mobile phones frequently for any task in their day to day life.

82.7% of the people use their gadgets for communication, while others use it for
social media(73%) and the rest use it for work/business(26.9%),
entertainment(57.7%), browsing(50%), studying(4%),and teaching and money
management(1%).

A majority (57.7%) of the people do sometimes take breaks from their gadgets
and a sizable percentage (38.5%) of people take regular breaks from their
gadgets throughout the day. However, a mere 3.8% do not take breaks from
their gadgets on a daily basis.

Two equally large groups (34.6%) of people either feel unsure about their
addiction to their gadgets or do not feel addicted to their gadgets in the slightest.
However, 28.8% of people do feel addicted to their gadgets.

A large majority of 51.9% of people don’t acquire feelings of anxiety or stress
without access to their gadgets whereas 30.8% of people are unsure of this and
17.3% do feel anxious or stressed without access to their devices.

A sizable percentage of people (44.2%) develop eye strains from excessive
gadget usage along with headaches(34.6%), neck or back pain(30.8%), poor
sleep and anxiety(17.3%). Meanwhile 28.8% of people have experienced none
of the above side effects.

A large majority of 59.6% of people have an impact on their productivity because
of gadgets whereas 25% are not sure about the impact on their productivity
because of gadgets and 15.4% have not been impacted.

The majority 52.9% feel that gadgets affect their relationships, whereas
37.3%feel that gadgets sometimes affect them. However 5.9% felt unsure of the
effect.

The vast majority, 53.8%, wanted to reduce their time spent on gadgets,
whereas 21.2% were unsure of this. 25% of people were okay with their time
spent on gadgets.

Two large groups (44.2%)were interested in learning to manage screen time
and (40.4%) were interested if it was easy to implement. The rest 15.4% were
not interested in this.

Many surveyors responded with suggestions for others to reduce their screen
time responsibly. Some suggestions are finding new hobbies, setting realistic
time limits, planning/scheduling screen time and talking to family and friends.
CONCLUSION
Several important conclusions can be drawn from the survey on daily
gadget usage. First of all, given that most respondents reported using their
devices frequently throughout the day, it is clear that they play a big part in
their everyday life catering to people of all ages and occupations. From
students relying on them for educational purposes to professionals using
them for work and communication, gadgets have revolutionized how we
function. Commonplace activities like texting, calling, browsing, and social
media interactions demonstrate the variety of features available on
devices.
Long-term device use can lead to addiction, physical health issues, and
negative impacts on relationships, as it replaces meaningful interactions
with screen-based distractions.
Moderation is key to reducing the negative effects of excessive screen
time. Regular breaks, time limits, and screen-free zones can improve mental
and physical well-being. Engaging in hobbies and physical activities offers
healthier alternatives.
